View Full Version : Augment indication on icons

It would be helpful, when sorting through equipment, if there was an indication on an item's icon that it had an augment slot on it. Just a circle of of the appropriate color in the corner or something would be very helpful. I don't care if one indicator super-cedes another or not.

We agree. This was the first option (of many) we explored last year while conceiving the revamped Augment system. Unfortunately, technical limitations prevent us from adding another icon layer at this time.
We're still looking into what other methods of messaging the presence of slots on an item may be within scope for future development plans.

Would extending the background color, border, or item icon it'sself list be a non-starter?

How about parens in the item name? I know - a little old-school Blizzard-y, but would go a long way.

Border would be nice, but I can see the possibility of confusion - although... confusion could be moot, since 99% of the time, you get a light blue or even raid items, you look at it anyway (ohhh shinyyyy).

A name change would be more useful for reward lists and the auction house than a slight difference or overlay on the icon. Just including the gem name in the title fits right in for most worn items...
X Diamond Ring of X
X Topaz Ring of X
X Diamond Necklace of X
X Diamond Celestial Chainmail of X
X Sapphire Celestial Chainmail of X
Weapons and shields still sound a bit strange though...
X Diamond Flametouched Iron Scimitar of X
X Ruby Quarterstaff of X
X Diamond Planeforged Shield of X

If a change is made to the outside border, please consider if there is any easy option other than color (for those who have difficulty telling colors.) Of course, if there is no easy or attractive option (such as linestyle, etc.) then that's understandable - please just remember to consider it.

Bejeweled weapons. They're just fancified.
X Bejeweled Longsword of X
X Bejeweled Dagger of X
It sounds better for all the items, IMHO, bejeweled ring, bejeweled cloak, bejeweled bracers..
Alerts you to there being a slot, you just have to check what kind.

Thanks for the note, Feather. Good to know it's on the radar.
I know what it's like to work with old codebases and want to do something but keep running into reasons why things that look super simple just cannot be done without causing weird problems. Good luck.

In the same vein, can we get a checkbox on the AH? Has augment slot.

I vote for the border.
Usually epics are purple, i'd say let's make named items red (like red named mobs) and regular weapons green. Augmented may be yellow or blue.

I vote for the border, too. Something as simple as this (for a green augment) would be easily noticed, I think:

I had a similar Idea but instead of put some sort of name it could just add a symbol at the start of the item..
like a * or even a special one like the ones on the TR names..
this way the name of the items would not be change and we not gonna end up with a larger name of the items that we already have..
im glad to hear that its being looked to..

Item names might get a little ridiculous...
Improved Curse-spewing Sapphire Densewood Repeating Heavy Crossbow Of Greater Monstrous Humanoid Bane
But all things considered, it's a small price to pay.

Secondary benefit to changing the names, at least for lootgen items, is that it would make augment slots searchable in the AH.

Maybe adding a pre-prefix, like "(Colorless/Red/Blue/Yelow) Augmented X Item of Y", or "(Colorless/Red/Blue/Yelow) Slotted X Item of Y"? This would help searching for them in the Auction House as well.
Edit: I see the idea has already been posted, this is what I get from not reading the second page.

Not to grumble against our lords, but how is it that an icon was developed to show Daily Dice rolls available in party UI before any icon was developed to show augments were available for a given item? The developers' choice to do that is frustrating.

+1 to this, please keep it alive for the "future developments".
Both icon revamp and having it on the title would be nice, best if at the same time.
The icon is too cluttered, best if having smaller icons below the item's name for quick reference.
This way the "extra features" will show in the auction house right below the item's name.
And you will have a clean image of the item in the main icon.
Both the main icon and the smaller feature icons can pull your eye when wading through the junk.
That's kind of the point of having visual clues at all.
The title gets cluttered too. There should be a short and a long title for purposes of searching.
Ideally there could be a hidden string containing the names of each feature in the item for use in the text search.
Searching for every desired keyword would be time consuming, hence gotta be mixed with the visual cues.
And while we are at it, it would be very nice if the numbers could go after the letters in the sorting.
As it is now you have to wade through many pages of +1 to +8 items to find the named items at the end of the list.
Sorting the numbers last would put them at the first page of results, for purposes of "quality of life" ;)
This however might be limited in code because afaik normally alpha sorting puts numbers first.
