Having been sick for the past week I am not sure this has been posted here.
Infinite Crisis, a multiplayer online battle arena title featuring characters from the DC Universe, is the next project from Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine, the studio revealed in a press release this morning.
The title, the debut trailer for which is posted above, will feature the heroes you'd expect from a DC video game adaptation; Green Lantern and The Flash are specifically mentioned in the press release. It will also feature variations on those characters, pulled from the franchise's "multiverse," such as Nightmare Batman and Gaslight Wonder Woman, the latter of which is assumedly pulled from Brian Augustyn's Gotham by Gaslight one-shot.

The Official Website is here (http://www.infinitecrisis.com/en) where you can sign up for the beta if the DC Universe interests you.

Seriously? interesting. Esp with DC Universe out there.
So many of us were betting on a Harry Potter with a console connection.

And here I thought that "Infinite Crisis" was Turbine's internal name for DDO! :p

Not sure how it will compare to DCUO, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it will win the most bugs category hands down.

From the thread subject I was sure this would be another 'state of the game' rant. I was wrong about that.... but at least I've got some insight as to why the Known Issue list hasn't gotten any smaller. :)

I just hope Wail of the Banshee works. Everything else is secondary :D

Does this world really need two D&D MMOs and two DC comics MMOs?

Interesting concept. Sadly, the trailer left me kinda cold and not overly interested.
Looks like League of Legends at some points in the trailer - but with DCU trappings. And, I'm not into LoL at all. I don't think this will be an MMO at all - but rather a lane-strategy tower-defense game. The use of the Infinite concept is interesting, however. It's sure to get a lot of DC fans' attention for that alone.
However, considering how monetized LoL is, and knowing that part of WB's interest in Turbine was it's microtransaction foundation, I'd say that a super-hero tower defense game is what is being brewed up. Between this and Injustice - DC is doing some interesting things. Not sure if they'll be good - but interesting.
I'll keep an eye on it, but my expectations will remain tempered and low for the time being.

Holy ****, nice! When I read the title I thought "Wait the DC event from a few years back?! Nah...".
But it is!
I believe one of the tie-ins was called "Countdown to infinite Crisis: Arena", basically this game in a nutshell.

Definitely looks like a tower defense type game so for me, I'm not interested. Very cool trailer though. I hope it does well.

From one of the news bits:
Infinite Crisis is a new entrant into the wildly popular MOBA genre that delivers a heart-pounding competitive player vs. player battle experience set in the legendary DC Multiverse
So, PVP ... NO thanks .... next

Not all problems can be fixed by throwing resources at it.

The Executive Producer of the Infinite Crisis is Jeffrey Steefel, formerly EP of Lord of the Rings Online.
Jeffrey Steffel - Press Release "We are utilizing years of experience in the online game space to deliver innovations to the MOBA genre with a game that features fast-paced action, a major story arc, destructible environments, catastrophic events and a deep roster of iconic DC Comics characters."
With that in mind it appears this game has been in the works for about two years.

If I was into PvP I'd already be playing one of a dozen or so established games.
That, and as awesome as Batman is, I find most DC heroes pretty lame. I'm imagining multiple-universe Aquamen and feeling all clammy inside.

Well... lets hope they actually have speed powers done correctly. The Flash could run up buildings after all, and run down them.

WB owns the DC IP and they want to get as much out of that as possible. DCU is an MMO this is an MOBA. Two very different types of games.

More akin to Marvel Hero's then which is being billed as an MMO in so far as game play, not necessary game objectives.
PS. Mem, that gif lacks the clam.

I've played LoL and Smite quite extensively, and I gotta say the idea of destructable environments in a MOBA could be quite interesting. I've been saying for years they should make a superhero MOBA, the huge roster of fairly unique characters lends itself to the genre. The only question is will their 'innovations' be enough to make it stand out from LoL. The one thing Smite had going for it was that went third person instead of isometric. This looks from what clips I saw to be the same traditional perspective.
Just a shame it isn't marvel, I have relatively few favorites on the dc side of things, but could make a list a mile long of marvel heroes.
Pity they couldn't license the Marvel Vs DC crossover they did a number of years ago. I'd have loads of fun with that.

There are two ways of making a profit off MMOs.
1. Release WOW.
2. Buy bankrupt subscription MMOs for nothing and make them free to play.
I'm not sure how this figures into either of those categories.

Infinite Crisis is very much like League of Legends. The characters have the same passive and 4 active ability setup with similar mechanics and terminology as used in LoL. I am sure Infinite Crisis will have its own twist in game play but if you don't like League of Legends at all then you are probably not going to like Infinite Crisis.
It seems like a good concept if they execute it well. League of Legends is very popular and is making a lot of money.
I hope it is monetized like LoL. In LoL there is no Pay-to-Win. The highest ranked players in the world can do just as well on a totally free account as an account that has spent thousands of dollars. LoL makes its money mostly off of cosmetic changes that gain no in game advantage. Also money allows you to unlock characters but any character can be unlocked with a couple of weeks of play time for free. No character is inherently more powerful than others only different play styles. They strife greatly for distinctive but balanced characters. Especially since they hold multi-million dollar PVP tournaments.
I like League of Legends and will definitely try Infinite Crisis when it comes out.

League of Legends is very popular and is making a lot of money.Oh, absolutely. :)
It's just not my cup of tea, so I'm not too enthused by the trailer or the idea. Also, not a huge fan of DC heroes in general - but I did like DCUO. But I know LoL is a hugely popular game - and it's gameplay type is tried and true by now. It should be a very good game of that genera.
I have noting against the notion, and I hope it does well. More accurately, I hope Turbine has a different QA team working on IC then they do for at least one of their other games. :D

Marvel had better origin.... you know what I better stop here or in a week this thread will be Star Destroyer versus Enterprise. I'll just say I agree.

Wow... Didn't see this thread at all or launch news on any of the sites I normally troll. Also INSANELY WEIRD they didn't launch at PAX East a day beforehand. Turbine/WB Marketing must be Kobold staffed right now.
Also sad they'll probably strip some DDO resources. Oh well who needs a full QA team. Did they take Madfloyd?!?!? (You bastard swords!)
I know LoL makes money and it's probably a welcome change for the Turbine teams to work on a different game type but PAINT A GIANT QUESTION MARK ON MY FACE why the marriage of WB properties and Turbine microtransaction/MMORPG engine wasn't stealing DDO resources for a Harry Potter Online game on consoles and PC (and mobile???). That universe is ripe for printing money right now. DC comics is more of "Well it's kind of like the Avengers with more meh and bad sh** malaising their movie releases".
