View Full Version : Materials-Durability Discrepancy Devs?

If we look at the image below and read the name and description, we see an item that is made from the shell of a living creature.

However, the Durability is listed as "Steel".

I can understand someone deciding it should be as durable as steel. But the shield simply isn't supposed to be steel as described.

This should not have turned my Druid into an oathbreaker.

Please fix this so it either doesn't cause oathbreaking, or has a description that makes oathbreaking conceivable.

For some reason I want to label the dev's in the picture, I vote cordovan is the one with the mustache.

Nicely done with the thread derailment gent, nicely done. If we can't get Dev attention, we may as well have a laugh.

Like it or not, hair metal WAS metal for awhile. Scorpions was a solid act, despite their look.

They were a hair band, but hair does not make metal. Scorpions was a good rock band, maybe even a solid rock band, I still listen to them in a few playlists (mostly 80s), but not metal. They weren't nearly discordant enough.

They don't compare at all with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, or any of the metal bands of the times.

What are you talking about "discordant"? Hallowed Be Thy Name, Rime of The Ancient Mariner, and Can I Play With Madness are hardly "discordant"!

For that matter, neither is a lot of Metallica's early stuff. Won't speak to their later stuff after they were replaced by aliens masquerading as Cuban Pimps...

You seem to have some prejudices. What's wrong with pimps?

harmony and discord are fascinating. The Devil's chords aren't at all discordant to us now, but back in the day? Welcome to the Jungle set my teeth on edge when I was 14, but now? It doesn't even seem that fast past to me.

With that preface, discord is the hallmark of metal.

As for the exceptions to the rules? Well, every artist/band slips genres once and a while. You describe a band/artist's genre by the majority of the music in their repertoire/opus, not by the rare odd ones out.

Heck, if we did that, I'd say that from Winds of Change, Scorpions was a pop group and not rock at all ;)

As for Metallica, even 25 years after listening to them the first time, I think there's only one song of theirs that doesn't make me want to plug my ears. Maybe that's how I judge metal... by how uncomfortable it makes me.

Oh, and Devs! Please fix the Durability/Materials discrepancy!!!!!

Ah, understood. Fair enough, good sir. Some people such as myself adore metal. Others... Do not.

I think the problem is that hey use basic items, and just add abilities and descriptions to them. ANd if the basic item is of the wrong kind, you get materials that make no sense. Just shaving time off the programming methinks.

I'm sure when they created this item they weren't considering that Druids would be added. But when they decided to add Druids they should have done an item pass to tweak named stuff like this.

Actually, the item in question was just updated this last patch. So... yea.... >.>

Also, as time has gone on we have taken the extreme outliers of "metal" and sharpened them to a fine edge. Much of what was considered "metal" when I was growing up has since been revealed in it's sissy nature. This does not make it bad. Just weak. *Face burns off as Nathan Explosion leaps from my shattered skull.*

This item? Specifically the Chitin Shield?

Updated how? So as not to work?

I made that screen shot just before starting this thread. So I am confused as to what you may, or may not mean, if you take my meaning.

Ah, understood. Fair enough, good sir. Some people such as myself adore metal. Others... Do not.

Before there was "metal" there was Acid Rock. My odd brain chemistry didn't need the acid to love it.

But some music gets easier to handle as you become acclimatised. Ace of Spades is a great case in point, I actually like ti now. When it was new, I just could not even be in the same room it was playing in.

This was actually my assumption as well. But its gots to get fixed.

OIC. And one might think that, just possibly, someone might fix the other thing during that little update?

The poor guy updating all those lowbie named items was probably experiencing tunnel vision while doing what he, or she, probably felt like was a tedious task.
Why would anyone ever go the extra mile? What's the profit in that?

But really, the two things weren't likely conceived to be related enough to keep an eye out for it during that kind of update. So I can understand why nothing happened.

However, if any Dev ever does read this... perhaps they'll take a look.

I can think of two perfectly plausible reasons why it wasn't taken care of.

1) Nobody thought about it.

2) Someone did think of it, but personal initiative is frowned upon in the Turbine offices and he didn't feel like getting his pink slip that day.

Not saying 2 actually is how they run things at Turbine, just that it's how some companies run things, therefore making it plausible to me.

Yup. Plausible.

I wasn't really trying to criticise the fact that nothing was done, or that this was ever missed. I'm just drawing attention to it with hopes someone does something someday.

Which will, likely, create some totally random bug elsewhere, LOL.
