View Full Version : Best xp from a lvl stone
This is the information that I have gathered from different posters and just wanted to share with others that may have missed it. If a Mod or anyone can confirm this (or point mistakes) please do.
For the sake of typing a lot we will call xp buffs 60% (50% pot, 5% voice, 5% ship. They all stack)
If you are on a first life toon, the xp needed to get from 8 to 16 is 930,000 xp. (270,000 to 1,200,000). For a first life toon, the system knows to get you only to 16. If you need the whole 930,000 to get there, the system will apply the entire amount of 930,000 with an additional 60% xp buff. (930,000 x 60%) would give you an xp bonus of 558,000 xp.
If you are lvl 9 when you use the stone, and only need 850,000 xp (350,000 to 1,200,000) then the xp you need (850,000 x 60%) would only give you a bonus of 510,000 xp.
The xp bonus gets smaller with needing less xp to get to 16. The same calculations apply for a 2,3, or 20th life toon. A tr2 needs 2,040,000 xp to get from 8-16. The bonus is really noticeable if you need much less to get to 16 on a double tr.
A safe bet is to be right at lvl 8 to get the maximum benefit from the stone.
If there were problems with my math, please let me know.

AFAIK the only thing you're missing is a possible stacking +10% that all VIPs have as of the update.

Actually, I think you're calculating wrong here. (or you could have made a typo when you said "right at level 9") You are making the assumption that you are getting enough XP to go from Lv-Lv, which is not in actuality the case. From my experience, you are actually getting enough XP to go from your current XP total to the base XP for lv16, meaning that you get more XP total (and a better bonus) if you use the stone at exactly lv8, rather than waiting until 1xp before 9.
Also, I don't have the numbers right in front of me, but I tried it out on 2 2+TR toons that were just over lv8, using a 50% XP pot and making sure I had all available XP buffs on, including 5% ship (this was a week ago, so no 10% bonus for VIP), and it got me slightly into Rank 91, if I remember correctly. I think with a 30% pot it gets you to rank 89. So, basically, if you plan out everything right, it is an 8-18 or 8-19 stone, the way it works today. ;)

Also, if you want actual data, I have a toon that is almost capped, whom I plan on TRing again, and I have a box ready to go when I hit 8...if nobody else replies with exact numbers by then, I'll get a screenshot, if you'd like.

i don't get your point: why use the stone at lvl 9 if you can get more xp at lvl 8? i mean...
at lvl 8 you get 2,040, 000 xp *1,60
and at lvl 9 you get 1,896,000 xp *1,60
what i'm missing?
It gives you enough XP to get to 16 (not including buffs). So, if you used it at L9, you would not get the L8-9 XP and thus you would be worse off than if you used the stone right at at 1xp into L8.
So, you want to put in the effort for another level to end up with less total XP? That makes no sense.

The way I do it is: bank from level 6 so you can't go into level 8 XP at all. Take level 7 go to searing heights for an explorer and then stone. This way you are as close to level 8 (minimum XP earned in level 8) as possible.
Buff up for XP. Voice + ship + Pot and now VIP
stone
Enjoy

I was doing TR life with buddy, and we 2 bought old motu XP stones.
He was lvl9, I was lvl8, he had small XP pot (or none), I had 30%, we both had voices, 5% ship and greater tomes of learning (don't know how much bonus, if any, they give).
He was lillte above lvl16, I had much more XP to hit lvl17.

2 times that I stoned (13th and 14th life) I used sovereign pot, voice, ship, entered a quest and got instant rank 89.5. Half a rank to 19.
Hope this helps.

I used a stone last night, after multiple lives. With 5% ship, 50%xp pot and voice and VIP the exact breakdown was:
1,223,619 for stone and 203,936 for vip ( Rank 91)
It took me 499,000 from capping and starting my next life. When I used a stone before last update it brought me 701k from cap ( Rank 89 ) since vip bonus wasn't there yet.

One important thing to consider is to avoid as much overrun of experience as possible; in this case, I mean being as little XP into level 8 as possible. Each point of experience into level 8 is a point of experience you're not going to get from the stone, which is further amplified by the 60% of boots from the potion, shrine, and trinket to 1.6 points of lost XP.
So in this situation, being 10,000 XP into level 8 will rob you of 16,000 XP. That extra Delara's 2 completion could cost you an extra Monastery run down the road!

Yup I even tried this the other way around, instead of going straight to 19, I stopped leveling at 16, and did necro elite, I got 0xp even though it didn't have me capped. After I noticed getting no xp, I took 17 same thing, I took 18 and started to get xp again.

Before 408,739 (extremely close to the beginning of level 8.
Mantle equipped, 5% xp ship buff (thank you Pyrastra),
VIP bonus, 50% xp potion (I like the new art design on it)
After 3,876,332
Advancement notes:
you have gained 1,223,856 from experience points bonus effect
you have gained 203,976 xp bonus from vip
So part way into Rank 91.
As noted in the quoted post, you will not get XP if you don't take 19. For those who prefer to sit at 18 until they have capped heroic XP, you might want to get a few more xp into level 8 so that you come in under the 3,827,500 for level 19.

The statement about not getting xp until you take 19 is false, after you take 18, you can gain xp again as normal, you are under no obligation to take all the levels that the stone grants you. (I did that this life, stoned, got to rank 91 and 1/3rd, which is level 19 in theory. I took levels till 18, then farmed out Litany of the dead on elite till I had farmed it dry and followed those up with hard/norm/cas, then elite vale streaking, and I was capped.)

Will have to try that next life.
Was not able to pause at level 16 or 17, not able to try out keeping 18 yet.

My point is that you understand this, but many more do not (probably those that never use the forums). I was just trying to show people (not you in particular) that it is you get more from the stone at lvl 8 than if you use it at another level.

I'm guessing you meant: "A safe bet is to be right at lvl 8 to get the maximum benefit from the stone."

Hey Vint, this is the typo that everyone in the thread is talking about. :) I'm sure you meant to type an 8 there, not 9...

I forgot, Fawngate has a Greater Tome of Learning
which adds +20% xp bonus.
Went back and added that to my notes.
