Augment Drop Locations

So far, I've heard they drop in chests and gold piles. Where else do they drop?

Do they drop from breakables?


Outside of GH, where are the best places to farm them? Or would any opinions really just be superstitions?

I ran epic snitch on my pally tonight superior flame dropped...which i bought one last night...I was suprised but annoyed at the same time just out of the blue.

It does go by level of quest but..Superiors from wiki says 1 percent..and lower level around 5 percent.
It is like everything you get them when you do not need them..not when your looking for them

I pulled a ML4 Topaz shard in the last quest of Tangleroot (level 7).

I pulled a ML4 Ruby shard in a rare chest in the 3BC wilderness (level 5).

No loot boosts running at the time.

On my new tr, I was specifically watching for when I saw them start dropping... It was in the Depths chain and above. Kinda surprised me, 'cause I was thinking they'd start in Irestone.

Doesn't answer the question on farming, of course.

No. I got a ML:8 Sapphire of PRR, and that was running a level 6 quest on elite. I don't recall which specific chest it was, but certainly not a level 12 one.

I have seen them drop at a rate in line with what devs have said, about 5%. If feels a lot less, but if I think hard about it, yeah, 1 in 20 chests is about right.

I pulled a sapphire of heavy fortification from a chest in elite bounty hunter. One of the first chests i opened after the augments were put in. I've pulled striding 25% somewhere, dont remember where. Lots of the low level ones, which i don't need so i get rid of.

My question is about the deathblock augment. As far as i can see, this is the only augment that can't be gotten from any vendors. Not the collectors, not the epic token guy. I've never seen one on the auction house. Do these exist?

Yes they do, I pulled one from Raiding the Giants Vault few days ago. Also saw one on AH for some ridiculous price 750k I believe it was. I actually have pretty good luck with augment drops, I already pulled various +6 stats and Good Luck +2.

Just got a ss of a lvl 12 augment from Tomb of the Blighted end chest (lvl 13 quest on elite). It may be more probable to get an augment of a lower level than the chest, but it doesn't seem to be the standard. I'd say only 30% of mine were 4 levels lower.

Well, I will admit that I had an agenda for asking about breakables. I've noticed breakables dropping a lot more gems, shards and items than previous.

Pretty much with the same patch/update that stops the (wonderful) tons of gems from dropping in chests.

I was wondering if augments were part of the gem part of loot tables and the increase in gems in chests was related to the augments. As too many people whined about the gems (which were making me rich, BTW), they had to "fix" the chests and decided to make the breakables drop more to keep the chances of getting augments up.

Of course, they may have fixed it for reasons completely unrelated to user input, and that would not surprise me at all.

Anyway, not a single response saying anyone got one from a breakable, so I guest that kills my hare-brained theory of the day.

You could try going to an area with a lot of accessible breakables like Crucible and spend an hour re-entering and re-smashing to see if you get luck with anything.

I still get gems just as often as i did before the patch, i just don't get as many of them. Before update 17 in most chests i didn't get any gems at all. Now pretty much every chest has one or two gems in it. I'm guessing augments are a special extra kind of thing that shows up now and then. When i've gotten them, i've still gotten other items too. I'm not sure augments are taking the place of other loot, at least in chests. But i haven't studied it enough to feel certain of that.

I could be wrong. But I do think there are both more items and gems dropping from breakables. Pots seems the same to me though.


That distinctive "clang" as a weapon falls or "chunk" as armour falls really catches my ear in general. Or maybe they just changed the audio files, LOL

I have "farmed" the breakables in EE Detour (15 breakables at the beginning: 9 in house, 6 outside). It was neither worthwhile nor fun. This was before U17.1.

Here are my notes if someone cares. One line = one run = 15 breakables. First run on epic normal, rest EE. No loot bonus. Took 1 or 2 hours.

Here's another question about breakables:
Are their drop rates and loot affected by the difficulty setting? Is Elite better than Casual as for chests?
Or is it more random?

Breakable drops are definitely influenced by dungeon level. I don't know if they are changed by loot gems, but loot bonus days should boost it.

+1 Night's Grasp shortbow of Greater Aberration Bane, ML 10.

Found it in Crucible on Normal.

I know that the highest tier augments start dropping in chests of the same level required to start dropping +4 tomes and +4-5 upgrades (loot level 27). I'm not certain of the exact chest level thresholds for lower tiers, but I'd like to assume that augment tiers are directly tied into chest level. If someone that has done more testing can chime in with the loot level range required to pull a deathblock augment, that would be very helpful. I'm guessing that to be the most valuable currently with some others like striding 30% having some good value as well.

It is a global one, we have a +2 loot level bonus until the 24th.

Huh! Well okay then. I didn't notice that. :) None of the OTHER loot I've gotten in the last couple days has been upscaled...it's all been about the same as I usually get for quests. Heck, a couple of them were giving me LOWER quality loot (like ml-4 stuff in an 8th level quest on elite, etc).

Yeah, I bought mine from the AH. They're on the AH infrequently, though I have seen up to 3 once.

I usually find the goofy things in epic chests. Though I have pulled alot from gold piles. Then I list em out and sell em for 20 or 80 grand. The more worth while ones to even bother slotting of course go for more. But people buy the crappy ones to so eh.

If people are actually interested in breakables, go and run the mansion challenges in house c. You don't have to farm anything, as breaking everything is part of the mechanic. Lots of breakables in there. Best i've gotten is a plus 2 to plus 3 upgrade tome. Also get lots of random gen items. Mostly though, i have gathered a fairly large supply of resist 30 pots, which drop frequently in there, and usually in stacks of 3-5.
