I have wasted too many lockpicks fooling around with that redwillow chest that doesn't work over the years. Tonight, I finally had a new character in there and the chest is now working, wh00t!!

Didn't get anything useful out of it, but I am impressed!

Doesn't take much to impress me anymore, apparently :D

Better, and sticking with recent trends: generates a random AoE effect on the opener - including possibility of Mordenkainen's DJ.

I left that chest for dead a long time ago.

I'm actually sad Turbine killed the TWO "troll" chests in DDO at once... That one in Redwillow, and the one in Feast or Famine.

So am I. They were just so Gygaxian!

Huh ?

The one in Feast is still there, I 'opened' it this weekend after disabling the trap around it. It blew up and gave me some searchable rubble.

From the DDO Wiki:
Spikes at the end of the corridor to the west, surrounding a fake, empty chest; control panel is on the wall behind the chest; however, the chest is empty and can simply be skipped.

He was saying that now the chest isn't empty anymore if you disable the trap.

That one has been openable for awhile. I remember I made the comment, "It won't open." to show how much I was familiar with the quest. Then the artificer opened it.

it would be a NIGHTMARE to code, but i still think EVERY CHEST in the game should have a small chance of being a Mimic (with CR=quest level)

And the first time a Raid chest turned out to be a mimic, everyone who remembered this post of yours would hack their way to your address, hunt you down, and fornicating lynch you!!!

No. That's asinine. Why would, for example, a red dragon have a mimic and not treasure?

Random doesn't equal good.
It doesn't always equal bad either, but here it does. Orcs? Yeah, they're poor, and they would be the type to think it funny that "hey, if someone kills us, this thing will eat them! And then we can laugh!" because they are kinda dumb and didn't think about their sentence too well.

The only chests that should be mimics are ones in side rooms without guards. Who is going to sacrifice their life to guard a mimic? Only something incredibly stupid, which there are a few of, but not as many as you'd think, because this is Eberron, where ogres and trolls found military organizations, and some are paladins.

NOT what i meant, but my bad, guess i wasnt very clear.

the idea i had was something more like: the chests arent REPLACED by mimics, more like GUARDED by them. when the mimic dies, the REAL chest reappears.

and ya, Raid Chests would of course be exempt.

I was in such a hurry the other day to try the chest, that I forgot about the traps and immediately got killed for my stupidity. hahahaha
