Hey, all.

Been gone for 2 years and excited about all the changes. Still trying to wrap my head around them, of course. :o

So how does AC work? Do enemies still roll to hit? Or has the Defense Chance and Physical Resistance rating replaced that?

Thanks,

Holgar

AC faces diminishing returns...so as you get more AC, each additional point counts for less of an improvement in miss chance.

I don't play a pure Tank type, but in general I would say everyone wants to maximize their 'absolute non-scaling miss chances': Dodge (up to 25%, limited by your armor), Incorporeality (10-25%), and Concealment (20% Blur or 50% Displacement). Those provide absolute non-scaling miss chances. Then do what you can with AC after that.

That's my super simple explanation. There are more calculations out there if you want to dive deeper...and of course also depends on your character.

I agree mostly with the post above.

To answer your other question, yes the monsters still roll to see if they hit, but there is allot more going on behind the scene.

PRR, or Physical Resistance, is damage mitigation after the hit calculations are done.

if you are wondering about AC Values from 2 yrs ago then add 70% to the prior and you should be in the ballpark.

I play a Legendary Dreadnought Dwarven Tactical DPS Tank (Stunning Blow, Trip, Momentum swing, Lay Waste) and in DPS mode his Self (non boosted) AC caps at 128.

In Full Defense Mode (Unyielding Sentinel) 168.

PRR in both cases reduces damage by 52-55% and Fortification Ranges from 165% - 210%.

Hope this Helps.

AC doesn't work in anything difficult, only works in content easy enough that it doesn't matter one way or the other.

Don't bother.

I disagree, and here is why:

Compared to the 95% untouchable Tanks we used to have your statement would appear reasonable to those who know nothing about AC Tanks in todays DDO.

The level of difficulty to complete an EE with an "Aggro-Holding PRR-Tank" is a lot lower when you have one. Until you have one (a good one...and one that knows how to play his part) you will never know.

Dropping this level of difficulty is useful because it allows:

A) Varied and Non-Optimal Party composition.

B) Theoretically it allows Pugging at EE level (Theoretically..... :D )

Enjoy the game... but learn from it everyday.
