Hello All.
I plan on TR'ing my 20 paladin into a Ranger. However not 100% decided if i should make a Pure ranger or splash a couple of levels into something else. (Maybe Rogue)
I have looked on the forum and i cant seem to get a reply to MY question. Just people saying what they have done.
I wish to know if it is worth losing the "Master of archery" and 1 Favored Enemy to be able to do traps or go a couple of fighter levels for extra feats and weapon prof.
If any1 has some experience in this then any advice would be very helpful
TY.

I am 18 ranger (tempest)/1 rogue/1 fighter
The ranger capstone is only useful when you use bow
So it synergize better with AA than tempest
Losing a Favored enemy is not a huge loss
Losing some SP and some spells slot is not a loss
1 level of rogue give you access to trap skills and full UMD (as ranger, you get enough skill points) and rogue damage boost I
1 level of fighter give you 1 feat and Figher toughness I (you d'ont gain weapon prof because you already have them as ranger, and you will usually avoir medium/heavy armor because you want to keep evasion)
1 level of monk is also a possibility if you have unlocked the class
IMHO, it is better to multiclass

Thank You
Your idea sounds good and wasn't something that had come up in previous discussions.
If you don't mind me asking what level did u take the fighter lvl.
I'm assuming You take rogue at level 1

Rogue at level 1 of course
I took the fighter level around level 16 or 17 because i didn't think to this splash before
But i think the best is to go for 12 level of ranger (PreII) then taking the fighter level, so it would be at level 14
During the 12 first level of ranger, you gain something at each level, but past level 12, you don't gain a lot

Apart from flavor, there's not a strong incentive for staying pure on a rgr, IMHO: the capstone ain't as good as it's supposed to be (only ~12.5% ranged atk speed increase, IIRC); and an extra FE is nice, but hardly essential. If you want a full-time archer, you're better off with a "monkcher" (i.e., AA w/at least 6 monk lvls for 10K Stars + Zen Archery); if you want to be melee-focused Tempest, you don't need the capstone and benefit more from, e.g., extra feat(s) from monk or ftr splash or UMD & trap skills from rog or arty splash.
Here are what I consider the most reasonable stopping points on a mostly-rgr build:
lvl 11 - for an AA, this gets you all of the rgr bonus feats (i.e., GTWF & IPS) and 3 FEs, Resist Energy 30
lvl 12 - gain Tempest II and max Barkskin & Prot. from Energy
lvl 14 - gain lvl 4 spell slot
lvl 15 - gain 2nd lvl 4 spell slot & 4th FE
lvl 18 - gain Tempest III
the capstone does not stack. i think it's useless my rangerficer gets to 62% bow speed

You could also take Druid 7 with Fatal Harrier for up to a 25% speed boost, though its tied to a stacking buff - but then you get a handful of useful Druid spells and additional healing enhancements, too. Ranger 6/Druid 7 means you'd get it at L13, and not at L20, as well.
