Now that we have druids, and the ability to shapechange, i think it's the right time to introduce diseases/mutations that alter the player, into the game.

such as vampire bite- once bitten you slowly turn into a vampire, if you don't die.
werewolf(or any other were-creature)bite or scratch- turn into were-creature
maybe even have slimy doom turn you into an actual ooze or gelatinous cube.
just these three off the top of my head, as i'm not sure how many creatures in D&D have the ability to infect someone.

The limiting factors for this could be, upon death and resurrection , the player would no longer be infected.
and maybe have the heal spell interact with abilities in some form.

Here's a better idea.

Introduce the spells that allow you to change your form!

i meant this as a way for non spell casters to gain new forms.

So... lycanthropy of sorts. Sounds like fun, but let some serious bug fixing happen first.

Your idea actually makes sense, but dont you have to die or drink blood from a vampire to become one? Or am i thinking of Vampire Diaries and that works on TV?

If changing into a different form were to happen from a bite or a scratch, than we would want ways to prevent or stop it with potions, saves or items. In this game, you will get hit from these creatures, so nearly impossible to not. Most players would constantly be changing form.

So far, I don't overly much care for the idea, but I think that has as much to do with the fact that it isn't very fleshed out as anything. What exactly would these changes entail? Would there be benefits? Would it be entirely a negative aspect? How would one go about preventing or curing these changes without dying? Currently, it sounds like a disease type effect that alters your characters appearance and is only removed by death. No thanks. Now, if the idea were more fully fleshed out, with a description of what each of these conditions would do to your character, perhaps my opinion would change.
