I just got done with a 12 fighter/8 monk life and loved it - especially Whirlwind with unarmed attacks, double stuns, improved sunder and improved trip when things can't be easily stunned or stunned at all. Also, taking Whirlwind naturally pushes Dodge% through the roof which is great for survivability especially when coupled with healing amp.

What I didn't like last life was the limited UMD ability without UMD as a class. I'd also been interested in a lever-puller by splashing either Druid or Arti. With Tobril's great help I worked out a way to fit in everything I wanted for my next two fighter past lives into this build.

On the level split:
Tobril was pretty convincing on the value of Touch of Death. I've played around with it before as well and even if you're getting resisted that's still a large chunk of damage at a time. We're giving up Stalwart Defender II by taking that extra level but I think it's worth it.
Once we've gone to 9 monk it's just a question of going 10 fighter or 9 fighter (no other combo's give us the Past Life). For me I'd much rather have the 30% arti boost from Wand/Scroll mastery than another combat feat. Also, splashing the 2nd arti level gives me my last combat feat at 19 instead of 20 (where I'm not likely to be playing the toon anymore). I'll take Improved Sunder there as that's the most likely time for me to be raiding where it gets the most value.

On the stats:
I'd much rather max out strength but the demands of those skill points for the trapping I want to do are just too high. I needed 15 dex to get TWF on schedule (could LR at some point down to 13 dex for 1 more point of strength but don't see a good reason for that unless I decide to stay at the cap for a bit). 14 int is really the bare minimum and that's punting balance and jump. 14 con is obviously the minimum and 14 wisdom seems like a floor as well since I do have wisdom abilities I want to use (especially if I do play at the cap since I have GMoF maxed out).

On the feat order:
I know that I'm going nuts to get to Whirlwind in a hurry. It's intentional and a personal preference. If played right you can use it as a melee-style fireball and with enough defense you can get away with the kite, bunch, and kill style I enjoy. It's certainly not for everyone but I enjoy it. :)

Possible Tweaks:
Not a lot here I could see moving around. It's not that I think it's perfect...it's more that so much is required for Whirlwind and so much requires the right BaB at the right time that most things have to be where they are.

That said, Toughness could be moved up to level 8 if I found I was taking a beating too much and having to stop too often. That would push my first stun (stunning fist) from level 8 to level 12. If I have plenty of ki and/or decide to move out of fire stance then Stunning Blow could be moved up from level 14 to level 12 and Improved Critical moved back.

Artificer at level 1 is a given for skills. Fighter at level 6 is pretty critical to fit in the Whirlwind attack early on. I didn't like pushing the second artificer level to so late but I wanted to give enough time for my skills to lag from the fighter levels.

Enhancements:
I've left 8 enhancement points unspent upon leveling to 19 (16 total at cap). I just wanted to put the framework for the build here. I could max out the amp with 12 points right when I take 19. I could spend 6 points to get to Haste Boost III/Versatility III. I could spend 6 points to max out either Sunder or Trip under tactics. I could spend 3 points (twice) or 4 points (twice) on 10hp's a pop. A lot of options on those last points after the low-hanging fruit gets picked up.

Leveling:
I would probably take Light monk at character level 4 and stick with it until character level 8. Feat swaps are dirt cheap at level 7 (swap before you level up to save plat) and the fists of light healing would be really handy for those 4 levels before Ninja Spy comes along.

Honestly I think you're overthinking this a bit.

You'll blow through these fighter lives so fast
on this platform your head will spin thanks to
the xp tomes and other bonuses.

Overthinking is fun!

Update:

Leveled this exact build to level 6. I'd honestly consider doing the feat list (Dodge, Mobility, SA, CE, WW, TWF, and PA) as a 6 pure human monk. Obviously LR later as you're missing out on too much with that feat list but at low levels Spring Attack is absolutely blowing me away. Getting double hits on most enemies and seeing regular hits about double my normal hits since at low levels the extra [w]'s haven't really started to stack up yet. That 4[w] from WW is a significant difference at that point whereas it's just a bit of extra noise at high levels. Whirlwind on a low level monk is the melee equivalent of sorc's fireball. :)

Actually tempted to grab my Carnifex and see how it does though. Curious to see whether losing the stance and the BaB boost from handwraps as well as the benefit from TWF is overrode by the massive damage of Carnifex.
