View Full Version : Hireling runspeed matched to yours

It kinda seems pointless, from a soloists perspective, to invest in runspeed bonuses (Striding, Sprint boost, Haste) when your hireling doesnt match your own speed. Whats the point in going faster if you have to just wait for your cleric hireling to catch up before you can start fighting?
It seems like it'd make a lot more sense for your hireling to share whatever runspeed you currently have - so if you sprint, they sprint, etc. I dont see how this could be abused, or break anything, unless it messed up their pathing AI somehow (wouldnt be surprised)...

Definitely. They go totally brain-dead if you issue the follow command until they get to within a few feet of you.

Definitely agree with this.
It's ridiculous that hirelings haven't invested in striding gear. They have tons of other stuff, but no striding? Come on, Turbine, that's just bad.
Especially an epic-level hireling who runs at the same speed as a level-1...

Yep definitely.
Sooo annoying when they're 3 miles behind even when they have haste. Ridiculously the panther falls behind a lot and that thing should outpace you 3:1.

I like this because it reduce the constant having to teleport to keep up...

park the hire, run/move silently
put passive, click follow, hire teleported
hire won't match your speed because other players don't match your speed, if you have haste on both you will have same speed, get some gear and here comes the troubles
ask for choosing/modifying the hires' gear, then i'll sign, if not is a non-sense that same hire runs like a mad with you and like a snail with me

Don't see the point, they teleport to you if they get too far away, if you can't wait 5 seconds in combat for the hireling then the hireling isn't the problem. :/
On the flip side, monsters seem to be wearing +100% striding boots at all times, why shouldn't our NPCs too?

Hireling teleport is VERY Glitchy!
I've had to wait quite a bit longer than 5 seconds on many an occasion when hireling AI has packed up!
You do bring up another excellent point however - Why can a Giant Rat outpace my Hasted, Showtimed Rogue Acrobat in Vale BUT my Hireling is somewhere on the other side of the map still?
HYPERBOLE I know!

Its not nonsense if a hireling CAN go faster but paces with you....theyre there to protect you after all.
And TP is not a viable workaround. Ive been two screens of map away from a hireling, clicked follow, and he still ran all the way back to me instead of TPing.

In my dream world, something similar would happen with NPCs doing their scripted walk (Partycrashers, etc.) When the NPC's walk to the boss fight takes longer than the boss fight, then something has gone wrong.
I have no problem with the NPC's speed in Ritual Sacrifice. If NPCs doing their scripted walk were similar to that, I'd be delighted.

/Signed. This would certainly make certain Ruins of Threnal quests a bit more tolerable :p

Yeah - I don't think this is a good idea somehow!
