View Full Version : One possible outcome of the downtime

I have seen this before in a few other MMO's, they have a scheduled downtime and it goes far longer than it should into days and not hours like planned. What is really happening is that the employee's are lobbying for the servers to be restarted instead of the parent company pulling the plug. I have a bad feeling about this one honestly, If the updates go from every couple of hours to 4-5 hours between and the downtime extends into the second day I would not hold out hope of the servers ever coming back up.

So releasing u17 on lamannia and spending all that time giving it out free - when they could at least momentarily cash in doesn't seem possible to you?
Heh, no. The guys in the billing dept. don't care that the servers are down anymore than the plumber who turns off the water temporarily cares that you're without water. It's not Turbine praying that they don't pull the plug on a massive source of income.

Yeah, seriously.
And 24 hours is nowhere near the longest downtime DDO has had, and going 24 hours when the downtime was supposed to be 12 is also nowhere near the biggest relative inflation of a downtime DDO has ever had.
If you're going to ride this rollercoaster, you best buckle up, kiddies.

If anyone thinks Turbine is in trouble... go read the Asheron's Call forums. They are planning work & Development in AC 2 this year... as well as installing brand new forums for them as part of this down time.
When AC and AC 2 go belly up, then worry about DDO. Until then...

Everyone is credited with a bunch of dollars to their credit card. Spend it quick, then cancel the card.
I won't be able to take advantage of this so I am hoping I get a bunch of TP and Astral Shards or whatever those shard things are that just came out that I can use to repair stuff.

Rather unlikely. DDO is a Warner Bros. property. Warner Bros. is a publicly traded entity. Relatively speaking, DDO is a minor asset to Warner Bros. but closing it down would still require an SEC disclosure.
In any event, the employees working on DDO have about as much chance at changing larger corporate strategic moves of a conglomerate like Warner Bros. as Phil Gingrey has of being the next Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Cover.
