ok so im a relatively new player. played back on release and for a few months but recently came back as a free player. well im finding im really enjoying the game and am thinking about subbing and buying the xpac since it is on sale right now.

my question is i see there are two different versions of the xpac available on the store. one is obviously cheaper than the other and when i look at them the more expensive version has some things in there that states this is free to vip subscribers, like the druid class. so if i do subscribe to the game i just need the basic xpac not the other version correct.

2nd question is if i get the other version does that unlock the druid class for me to play if I dont subscribe or do I still need to buy the druid class in the store.

3rd question is does any free game time come with the xpac. most xpacs give you 30 free days of subcriptions, does this one or not.

4th question-- once i buy the xpac do i need to download and update the game with the xpac or does the main download already have the content and i just need to purchase the xpac to unlock the content.

5th question-- as a free player do i even need the xpac or can i play the content in the forgotten realms and or buy the adventure packs seperately without paying the xpac.

sorry if this has been asked and sorry if these are considered noob question but i looked at the ddo store and none of these seemed to be answered.

thank you for any help you can give me so i know what I need to purchase going forward.

What level are you?

If you're low level, then you probably don't need to buy the expansion yet. The expansion content mainly applies to characters of level 20-25 (although there are some things, like druid for all levels, and challenges for characters of level 15+)

You don't need to download anything additional for the xpac.

You can't play any forgotten realms content without paying for it (except challenges, which you could run about 1/day without buying) However, all the FR content is high level content.

The less expensive expansion pack does not include the druid, so if you want druid, you would need to get the more expensive expansion pack, buy druid from the store, or subscribe as vip.

oh im level 2 i know its high level content, the only reason i was considering buying it now was its on sale and for the druid class. it looks like it is apparantly about 7 bucks cheaper and that would be worth it for me to buy now.

what about game time if i do purchase it.

No, if it did, it would have stated something like that.

Why do you need game time for. its free to play.

once you buy the xpac you dont need to pay for vip to access it. its yours to own until you quit or ddo goes down.

vip can be worth it because of some of the perks and you dont mind the monthly bill. it pretty much allows you to do anything.
vip=renting

premium=owns all the time

f2p=can earn tp to unlock but can take a lot of time and its free.

I would like to also say even if you are VIP you still need to buy the forgotten realms xpac as it is not included in the VIP membership

xpac? Low charisma, primitive mic skills, stupid finisher, not terribly fun to watch.

Biggest thing about VIP v. P2P is money available. If you lose interest in games easily, VIP is more your alley, but if you find you really like the game and want to stick around, it can be better to 'buy' the packs, although expensive up front, it means you'll own it 'forever' and there are packs out there that aren't that great, and easily avoided. It just kinda depends on your situation.

If you do decide to try VIP, I'd save your TP (you can't buy packs you have access to, but the TP wont go away, so if you do decide to cancel and go p2p you can buy the packs/classes/race/slots you like).

Also around holidays they tend to have 'double bonus' points packs which is a cheap way to get a lot of TP.. but still can be costly as the more money you spend at once (ie 200, 100, 60) gets you more points.

thanks all for the advice. main reason i went vip was for the packs and because i thought i would get to play a drow, i learned now that i still dont get a drow with vip, lol. oh well, live and learn but i got it all figured out now. now i just need to be able to play.

You can unlock Drow fairly easily from doing favor runs for the correct favor agent.
