It's not in the release notes.

those are not the U17 release notes... they're the notes for what's on lammania right now.

from the look of things, they're previewing the new gear and epic gianthold so far. they probably have other things they'd like to make a part of U17, but which are either not ready for previewing yet or which they don't feel needs feedback as much as gianthold. whether or not one of those things will be the enhancement revamp is anyone's guess...

personally, my guess is no. but do remember that those release notes specifically state they're subject to change.

I really hope the red text implies that enhancements are up next for testing.

As turned on as I am by Epic gianthold, its second in line behind enhancements for me personally.

You and me both. Enhancement pass has been first in line for me for more than a year...

This. It's been more than half a year since they were supposed to be live.

Given how long the delay has been, I seriously doubt that it'll come to be. It has become the new "Druid Class" lol.

Thank you for the response Vargouille.

For me, the Enhancement pass is the most exciting thing you could add to the game. I have dozens of characters who are "retired" until the enhancement system is finalized. Most of my characters multi class and or are unconventional if pure. I only trust that a few of my builds can safely pursue Epics. And if not for Druids, I'm not sure there is much I would be doing at the heroic levels with so many of my characters sidelined.

If you are taking feedback please consider this one vote to move the Enhancement Pass up in the queue.

Not only that, it's the old enhancement release date constant delay.

You announce GH after the enhancements, and you release it sooner? That makes a whole lotta sense.

actually, epic GH got a (accidental) preview several years ago.

presumably it's somewhat changed since then, but still... it was way earlier :p

I am going to assume that "upcoming" means Update 18 and start spreading the rumor. :D

Unless, of course, you guys at Turbine feel like giving us an update in the appropriate Official Turbine Discussion thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=357100).

I can't deny I'm disappointed that we still aren't getting this, but it's something that really does need to be done right unlike the rushed Primal Avatar destiny and Druid class. Better to wait and have it done right...

Not a big shock. Fernando only dangled it in last year's Producer Letter. It was never going to be in the first update of 2013. Heck, if you see it at all in 2013.....

It makes perfect sense - as i see it, Turbine isn't going to release an update that doesn't give them any financial benefits because well duh, companies want to make money, fair enough.. so each update consists of a paid-for moneymaking part, then also a bunch of other bits & pieces that fix existing stuff, add new features/systems/mechanics etc. but even a completely f2p player will technically benefit from those - the possible exception to this was update 13 (lords of dust/servants of the overlord/web of chaos, all F2P) but that was tied into the MOTU release so it doesnt really count.

Update 17 is (epic) gianthold, so the gianthold pack is the paid-for part (and is a pretty big pack), and then the augment overhaul is the additional bit... my guess is update 18 (or more likely a later one) will be the enhancement pass & make up the bulk of it (it'll be a pretty huge change), then the paid-for bit of that one which keeps the money ticking over will be another set of 3-4 quests & probably a few more cosmetic thingies.

While I thought I might be disappointed if such were the case, the excellent additions I've seen more than make up for it.

Thanks for making this clear, no worries. I'll be kept busy:D

As much as I am looking forward to/dreading the enhancement pass, getting it right is much more important that getting it now. Or even Thoon™.

However, the question is whether their is a link between delays and "getting it right". Past experience says it will take several further passes and still never be quite right and bug free.

The upcoming Enhancement pass is not part of Update 17.

Can we maybe get a rough indication of when? I'm not asking for a specific update number or month, but a general timeframe.

As in "We're actively working on it, and it will be soon" or "We're actively working on it, but... yeah, probably gonna be a while" or "we're working on it between other stuff, so don't hold your breath... even if you're WF." Even a somewhat nebulous and back-covering "we're hoping to get it done by early summer, barring any unforeseen complications" (y'know, to cover yourselves if something comes up).

I know I've been dillydallying on a TR because I don't want to be caught mid-life with a new enhancement system on a class that I don't normally play and thus don't know well enough to be able to work around sudden changes (a caster life, for instance); I'm sure others are in the same boat, and a general announcement of "not gonna be anytime soon" would do wonders, I think.

EDIT: And I'm most definitely *not* asking you to rush a half-arsed system out; I'm happy to wait until it's done (and hopefully "right"...), I would simply like to be able to plan for the future, is all 8-}

I'll simply say it'd be nice to see the progress for DDOs next birthday. Doesn't have to be done, or even nearly done. Just enough so we can get a decent notion of where y'all are going with the overall system at least. (After all, we were told that it would have a long time in beta, and it is something that'll be effecting every character, be it 1st level newbie, or level 25 multi-TRed Maxd destiny toon, so it's not like any of the rest of these updates where you can just play around it if it's not going the way you like at the time.)

Hence the word "announced" in my post.

I realize that it was leaked, but there has been so much stuff in between that it obviously needed a lot of extra work.

Work they put there instead of working on teh enhancements that were announced half a year pre-motu.

I'm not expecting bug-free. I'm just hoping for a system that isn't an across the board nerf to builds that multiclass more heavily than splashing 2monk for feats and evasion. If a 6/6/8 (or equivalent) build isn't approximately as viable compared to a pure class build in the new system as the old because of enhancements spread across the PrEs with a 3-tree limit, it will be a failure as far as I'm concerned. That's what I mean by "getting it right"

Expecting bug free on day one is unrealistic from any MMO. Expecting it not to be hopelessly broken at launch seems like a stretch lately, but as long as it doesn't crush multi-classing, I can take a month off while they work the bugs out.

There is no cow level...just like there will be no enhancement pass. They're leading us on to keep us interested. Just like the horse never gets the carrot on a string dangling in front of it.

And -IF- we get it, it'll likely be to little, to late b/c elderscrolls online is coming out this year...I know I won't be the only one taking an extended vacation from ddo to play something new and fresh with active combat and much better graphics as well as sound track.

Turbine is like god...a very long history of letting it's followers down.

And Skyrim came out last year, and SWTOR came out the year before, and something else came out the year before, and something else will come out next year, and something else will come out the following year...

And DDO is still going strong and hasn't hemorrhaged users like is always predicted when any big game is upcoming.

Swtor like all sw games was a joke as predicted, skyrim isn't an mmo...I didn't say that ddo would be failing b/c of new releases, just that there are going to be a lot less lfms up for a while when they do pop up...just like when the other games of major interest came out. I frankly believe elder scrolls on line will keep people's attention longer than skyrim did do to the social side of it not being only a 1 player game. But we'll see...at least you will.

I can only over look so many flaws and bugs myself. Ddo needs a serious recoding because its just one big tetris game. Every time they add something, another line crashes.

Is replaying old content on a 'higher' level really what is needed though? I will admit, epic gh slayer zone is a vast improvement over the heroic version..it was just to sparse for heroic mode...The game still has a lot of potential...but its potential I know will never be seen.

Okay so on one hand I really don't want them sending out stuff that isn't fully ready, but on the other hand, I am disappointed. I was looking forward to this update including epic gianthold and the enhancement pass. It's kind of like a child waking up Christmas Day and being told that while the whole family is all around (and that's good), the opening of presents will have to wait until some undetermined time. Very sad.

They made that clear last year already when they announced Epic GH.

Saddly, ^^this

I bought MoTU in part because they said the enhancement pass was gonna be part of it, then tey said February this year... I'de rather they started implementing it in Lamland already, what too soon and it'll be bugged to no end once it goes live?

Let's be real for second, that was gonna be the case anyway, the only thing we can be certain when it comes to Turbine is that whatever new thing they release is that it *will* be bugged and it will be fixed evntually. Start testing in Lamland, we all *know* it'll be broken anyway.

Perhaps they are taking so long because they are finishing off some much needed Pre's as part of the update. Maybe some older ones will get finished off and new ones (I know racial ones are added, but I mean class specific) will be put in. I've played just about every class, but just rolled my first cleric because i was bored. One Pre with only 2 tiers? I'm sorry clerics. I never knew. I just never knew. You poor poor souls........

You are forgetting the one where it was going to slip from MoTu to August 2012, but that's understandable considering how many times they have changed the proposed delivery date.

We have to remember that Turbine will use the enhancement upgrade to also revamp the classes. Some classes like clerics and paladins really need an overhaul.

I think Turbine already have the technical part of the enhancement upgrade mostly done. It will be a more advanced version of the one currently used for epic destinies. The hard part is to put the abilities into each tree.

What takes time is to fine tune the abilities you can get in each tree.

Seeing that cleric domains have shown up prematurely on Lamannia shows that Turbine are definitely working on the new enhancement upgrade. I guess clerics will be boosted with cleric domains in their available enhancement trees.

I believe it's important that Turbine take their time to get the balance pretty right so all classes get a chance to shine, even at epic levels. I want the enhancement update to work well when it comes instead of having serious flaws so some classes get the short end of the stick again.

It could have been fruitful if Turbine could present the different trees with abilities so they can get feedback on them before implementing them. Players can come with invaluable feedback regarding balance similar to what was done when the combat and spells system was changed for MotU.
