I'd like to see a new prestige class for druids - Summoner. One that allows an extra summoned creature and enhancements to summoned creatures and pets.

Doubt this will happen. An extra summoned creature would be a little overpowered. You could have a party full of druid summoners and have 12 summons. Which would mean you have a small army.

And before we get a new druid PrE, how about we get some PrE's for the classes that only have one PrE? Give cleric, FvS, barb and any others that only have one PrE at least one more PrE.

um... considering summons are easily squashed, upping the limit won't do much. I think you may be thinking of the druid pet, and yea, I can see how that may get out of hand.

Good idea, and good arguments against presented above.

I too think balance could be an issue. Either the summons are all too weak to be worth it, or it would be OP.

This thread makes me remember playing necromancers and druids in Diablo 2. I would wander about looting while my undead or animal armies dispatched all trash until they were smashed by a boss. If I recall correctly, the army of summons were OP vs trash mobs, weak vs bosses, and worthless on difficulties past normal.

You could make it like an infuse. You give part of your life (con) for extra summons. This would offset the power.

augment summons, 40 wis, pack buffs? I have a pet and summons that live longer than some players in raids, my pet often gets more kills than some players. I'm not really sure what those players are doing wrong but that's none of my business and they wouldn't listen if you gave them advice anyway.

TR Druid 3x, you can have a "Summoner" AND a wolf/caster/bear druid without a new PrE. Panther + pet + hireling + summons + you = private army.

Above level 18 I don't bother grouping except for elite, epic elite and some epic hard quests and I'm only on druid life #2.

can a player have more than one pet out at a time? Say if you took wiz and summoned a skelly. And, took Druid and summoned your wolf? Could you have both out at one time?

nope.

it counts as one pet.

No: you're allowed one class pet (i.e., PM / arty / druid), one regular summoned creature (this includes ED summons like Dryad Elder), and one regular hireling. You can also fill your remaining party slots with as many Gold Seal hirelings as you want.

Note: the black puddings spawned by Sundering Ooze GS weapon do not count against this total; this can sometimes lead to hilarious results (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/455656-Black-Pudding-Party).

NECROTHREAD.

That being said, there's some potential interest to having a druid that can produce a small army of mildly useful tag-alongs (like black puddings). But I fear this might produce problems in many quests with tricky mechanics.

There are also some hireling that have Summon Monster spell ;-) So when Solo you can have (without Gold Seals and Oozes) a tiny army: You (1) + Pet (2) + Your Summon (3) + Hireling (4) + Hireling summon (5). Fun is also with 6 “Pet-Man” party: 6 players, 6 summons, 6 Pets – quite funny ;-) (and lagy….).

And Summoner Tree will be nice. But more like Harper then connect to one class.

True, but considering it was the OP who performed the necro, I figured I would give it a pass. ;)

Note that summoning buffs are not transitive, AFAIK: i.e., your hireling will benefit from Augment Summoning, Harper Leadership, etc; but your hirelings' summons will not.

What about the epic destiny that allows you to summon a liche? does he fill up one of those slots? or is he an addition?
