so I've had this happen a number of times where a fight goes south on me and its time for the better part of valor. And almost as many times, I've had my runearm on auto-charge and couldn't get it to stop fast enough(thus restoring full movement speed) this was bad enough that on my second life I didn't even bother using the runearm until I hit 17 and got my Lucid Dreams, which does enough damage that it was worth the risk.
What I think we need is the ability to just ditch the charge completely, one button to just throw it away and restore full movement speed. And dont tell me to just "turn off the auto-charge and then fire it) A)thats 2 buttons for those who can't count, and B)not always possible. Unless the arm has at least 1 full charge tier you cannot fire it, and those precious seconds spend trying to get rid of an arrant runearm charge can easily mean the difference between life and death when you are frantically trying to escape more aggro than you really wanted.

I feel your pain, OP.
However, any button you get for releasing the charge and toggling the autocharger, is still a button tap. Just map the toggle next to your fire button and hit a kinduv double-tap when ya gotta skedaddle.

Put a two hander on your hot bar. That clears it in one key press.

Mine too!
Hmm, whats a good choice for a 2-hander that would be very defensive?

Something with a "Parrying / Greater Parrying" suffix?

My choice is a thaumaturgy quarterstaff to help my casting as I beat a hasty retreat.

Sorry if I don't understand what the problem is here.
However simply firing the runearm clears the charge.

If they give us a new button, my vote would be for a "dismiss pet" one because while the poor artificers might have 2 buttons to turn off their rune arm charge, there is no way to dismiss a pet short of summoning another one or waiting it out.
You gotta love the people who summon a pet in the "don't kill" quests... pets are rarely lethal unless they are attacking something you aren't supposed to kill. Then they are quest-failing harbingers of death.

Not trolling, but doesn't right-clicking the pet's icon in party allow owner to dismiss?

When you summon a beholder with your Xoriat clickie, can you dismiss it? http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w378/galeriaddo/JC-golly.gif Or a hezrou?
You troll.

He set it up to "auto charge" which seems like a silly idea to me.

Agreed, I don't leave the charge toggled on. I hit the charge when I need it, so this doesn't seem like an issue that needs a separate action button to me.

I have auto charge mapped to r, easy enough to hit r then fire, done in well under a second.
