Trying to remain calm, but I JUST paid $100 for a one year membership, and now this.

Of course all of this started happening as soon as I downloaded the "update". Now, I can play for all of 4 or 5 minutes, and then with no warning I'm booted completely out, all the way to my desktop! I log back in, everything's fine, and in 5 minutes it all happens again. This is on Thelanis, if that matters, although the person I was grouping with had no problems.

The game worked flawlessly before this update and I was NEVER booted before. Now I've paid $100 and I can't play the game. I sent in a ticket, AND reported it as a bug. But I'm just posting here too in case it helps.

This is truly ridiculous. I didn't choose to get the update, the game chose for me, and now this. Please fix this, Turbine, ASAP.

Thanks for listening.

Someone else reported a similar problem - they uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem went away.

Do you use McAfee?

Having this same issue. Have Norton and that is not the issue as it happens even with Norton disabled. After it crashed 4x I went to restart my computer and got an error message.

C;programdata/happycloud/turbinelauncher etc
Too many other files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Exit one or more 16-bit programs, or increase the value of the FILES command in your config.sys file.

Win7 64bit

In the middle of a reinstall now to see if it fixes it.

Where do I go again to uninstall (Windows 7)? Will it also remove the shortcut from my desktop? Will I lose anything on my account or characters?

Thanks.

Go to control panel

It should remove the desktop icon, but I don't think it does

No, your account is held centrally and is not impacted in any way by your local install

In your "my documents" folder, you should have a "ddo online" directory. Make a copy of your UI directory (if you have one) and your keymapping file, as well as any screenshots you want to keep.

After that, un install the game, re install it. Launch. quit. put back the files where they were located, continue to play.

The only things you loose by removing the game is your keymappings and UI layout (possibly) Heck, it may not even remove those as I'd hope it would not remove screencaps.

But to be safe, I always make certain I have a backup of my keymappings.

Install this.....defrag the game files.....try closing all the stuff in the configure option so game can run without anything in background running. Worked great for me after I had done a major LoTRO update.

You should at least give this a try before a re-install..chances are your game files are so fragmented they are not reading very well.

While I agree about fragmentation, only re installing will help with internal fragmentation any more. External can be handled by the program in your link or even by just Window's tools itself. Is one external better than the other? I honestly haven't a clue.

Me, I was planning on a re install about 1-2 months after U16th release any way.

I'll test it and see what happens I haven't actually intsalled the update yet...to busy grinding TP point deeds over at LoTRO :D

It did help when I had a similar problem with LoTRO tho.
