Recently I posted on the Cannith forum about how the High Rollers have a Festivult Giveaway each year. I have received several questions from people on other servers about how the giveaway works. I figured it was easiest to just post something on General so as many people as possible could see it.
Over the last couple of years, our guild has held a giveaway around Festivult time. It started off from me realizing I've got tons of gear stored away on mules that I will probably never actually use. I figured that rather than auctioning or vendoring everything, that I'd hand them out to people around Eberron.
We will get two of our guildies together and then form a raid group, putting up an LFM advertising the giveaway and specifying a level range for the items we're giving away. We generally prefer that people be first-life toons and hopefully newer to the game. As people join the group we will explain the rules for how the giveaway works.
Each guild member will place an item up for roll in party chat, alternating turns. If someone in the group is interested in the item, they simply need to type /roll d100 and whoever the High Roller is gets the item. We generally send them through the mail, so people can get them wherever they are. We have a strict 2 item limit per person and once someone has an item, we request that they drop group to allow others to join. Usually, we'll go for about 2 hours at a time (after that, my head starts to hurt).
Items that have been given away in the past have included useful random lootgen items, sets of +1 and +2 tomes, Collapsed Portable Hole and 10K plat, consumables (stacks of heal scrolls, cure serious pots, etc). We try to give away things that we feel will be useful to people.
We quite often get donations from people to give out, but honestly, I would rather see other people put together groups and hand out the items. Logistically, it can get pretty crazy when you've got people trying to hand you stuff when you have a full inventory. Last year we received a very generous Plat donation that went towards purchasing large amounts of consumables to be handed out.
This is our little way of giving back to the DDO community. Hopefully, some others will be interested and possibly take up the torch on other servers. If anyone needs further details about how it works, feel free to PM me and I'll respond as soon as possible.
