Challenge Difficulty

I rarely run the challenges but my group of 4 at level 18 decided to run them at level 18 as a way to get some easy XP.

We failed pretty much all we tried, and the excuse from the group was that they have been made a lot harder.

I dont recall any posts on the forum saying this, so figured I would ask. Is it because things were made harder in the last update, or is it because we have a combination of bad players and bad skills?

They scale brutally. Go in solo and face a handful of spawns that might scratch you when they manage a hit. Go in with a full party and face 3 brigades of hardened shock troops.

Which challenge? Did everyone in the group know how to do the challenge?

2 different kobold torch run ones and the mansion one. They have run them many, many times, but generally solo or in pairs.

It is very noticeable in all mansion ones, but while it hurts you in taking time, it may help in crest drops. The Colossal Crystal is a great one to see it in action. Go in solo and get a kobold to the big crystal and watch about 10-12 total baddies spawn between him and the teleporter. Go in with 6 and see how 10-12 spawn before the third torch on the way back.

I find 2-3 seems best, but you still might end up rogered by bad crest drop luck in the mansions.

I have found that it is best to Duo or go Three Amigos. 4 is too many and you will get beat down.

1 person holds down home base for "Incomming!"
1 person clears paths and DD's as needed to help homebase.
1 person strings the line.

Sadly, grouping for challenges is not a great way to do them. I read somewhere that they scale double due to some design glitch. So its literally 8 times harder with four people in the challenge than it is solo.
