Decided to run this quest this life and ohhhh boy. I don't remember the floors doing THAT much damage!
40-50 through 20 resist, so 60-70 a pop running it alone on elite, level 8 quest -> 10 elite.
And the damage is quick, ticking once every 2 second, if not less.
Quite deadly at this level for someone that doesn't know the quickest way to get out of them, and you pretty much HAVE to step on them twice during the quest, not for long, but long enough to devastate characters without decent HP.
Something that was forgotten when devs fixed elite trap damage in most places? AFAIK they used to do maybe 20 top per tick?

I remember them being devastating on elite before MoTU as well.

I usually carry a protection from energy (10th) wand, maybe that would make it easier? Not that I ever use the wand but it seems a prudent addition for preparedness lol.

My last run goes back a loooong way, but I'm fairly certain they couldn't get through a resist 30 at that time.

Eh I got through without much trouble since I have prot, self heals and 250+ HP at level 10. But the damage felt a little exagerated for an average character of the same level that might not have prots and high self healing like I did with repair critical.
Most people I've encountered pugging through this level had in the range of 100-150 HP, wouldn't last long on those floors.

those floors have been disgustingly destructive for as far back as i can remember.
i don't remember going in there at level and thinking they were weak, ever. not that i've been playing since beta or anything, but it goes back about a couple of years now i think.

I recall this as well. I think they could at times get through 30 resist, but when they did it was usually only a slight tickle.
On this life, my TR group decided "Hey, we never run this quest! lets give it a shot, it couldn't be THAT bad!". Well guess what... it was that bad. My character died very early to something dumb, a sonic trap i believe, and spent a along time waiting to shrine and come back. not five minutes after i shrine do we come across the electric floors. Without ship buffs (but with 6 electric resist from past lives and an Protection from Energy wand) i made it about three steps across this floor before becoming a soulstone again. And believe me, i was hoofing it, and my build was not what i would consider "shabby".
After seeing the nice big less than 100 xp per minute at the end of this quest, it made my "list" in the biggest way.

The problem with the elecric floor:
its against a fort save, not reflex.
Went in there with my Drow pally/monk mix and wanted to run accross the trapped floor to pull the elementals in the traps. The noticed, ouch, traped floor needs a fort save and evasion won't kick in on a successful save! (was still getting hit for 60 on a successful save)
Make the floor traps reflex save and i'm ok ;)

This was probably the least played old Epic quest. I think it's the only old Epic I didn't complete.

Ah, good info!
On a related note, the force spike traps in Partycrashers in House P are Will saves. I recall being in a run with an artificer where their dog seemed to be immune though!

As illusions, will saves make perfect sense to me. As for the arti dog, obviously it has invested in Iron Will.

When the House Cannith quests came out (as they included more uses of the Electrified Floor), the damage of Electrified Floors was increased, moreso for higher difficulties.

I was lucky enough to run this with my assassin on epic with another assassin and a virtuoso. We had a cleric as well, who mostly piked. It was slow, but the virt really trivialized much of the content.

If I remember correctly floors always did massive electric damage...it was a challenge. With some preparation it is possible to complete on any toon at level....hopefully it will remain unchanged.

Ran this for the first time the other day with a group who also had never done it/had no idea what to expect. WOW were we shocked. Insane quest. Ran it on EH, damage didn't seemed about right on the traps.

It's very much possible to complete this ques without touching that elecric floor once.
How?
If your serious about elite questing, do some experimentation and figure it out, else run somethign lower. It's elite, its meant to be a challenge.
And that damage is not at all high, you can run straight through that on a tough char without any healing or real strategy at all.

the first part i'm not going to argue (with ludicrously good mario skills, it's possible). but with the quoted part above, i disagree.
unless by "a tough char" you mean "multiple past lives and ridiculous twink gear", then no... the average tough char is not going to get through without healing or a strategy. not at level, at any rate.
