Even on Epic Normal, Crateos is completely immune to light damage. Most things like this that used to be Epic-only were put in for EH and/or EE only. This is the only exception that comes to mind for me where the quest mechanics for EN aren't the same as HN. Rabble rabble.

Hardly.

EN DQ2: Mephits still all red named.
EN Dragon: Djinn still present.

Most epic only mechanics remain on EN. Only ones that make the quest much more difficult are removed.

Given how poor EN crateos stats are otherwise, getting the player to use a different damage type is hardly a big deal.

Especially when its a type used by a class that always has access to powerful other spells which work fine such as blade barrier and cometfall. Or simply divine power and melee him down.

And Epic normal isn't meant to a be a joke use only 1 spell to kill everything mode anyways. Thats what epic casual is for. Try some alternate tactics, its meant to have some challenge.

In PnP, golems (which is what crateos is based off) are IMMUNE to ALL magic youd likely have on a clr/fvs, including blade barrier and cometfall. So consider this change a blessing.

He's a walking box with no eyes why would he be vulnerable to light damage.

I dont think the damage from light spells is the real phenomenon of overloading your optic nerves, but more of a blast effect of heat and impact.

Between the amount of room on the rooftop and how slow Crateos moves, he doesn't lend well to blade barrier kiting, and cometfalls drain your mana bar pretty fast. As a construct he's pretty well immune to everything else in the divine spell book except for Fire Storm and summons, which don't do the job either.

Asking me to melee down a boss is like asking melees to range down dragons. Sure, both of us can probably do it, but it takes a really long time.

The only mob in there I use Divine Punishment on is Garos anyway, everything else is implosion/greater command/cometfall/blade barrier/slay living/etc etc. I wouldn't really mind the immunity if I felt there was an alternative somewhere in my spellbook.

I suppose I can pop an aura and /autoattack while I play some other game. I don't think that was developer intent, though.

Ahh my melee main....

Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing - take a sip of beverage
Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing - make sure you're still facing Crateos
Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing - check clock to make sure you're not late for lunch
Swing swing Swing Swing Swing - make sure you are in comfortable chair position
Swing Swing Swing swing Swing - grab a munchie from the bag...
Swing Swing Swing Swing Swing - repeat and repeat until nothing but rubble left

Whats this about spells?

Hmm, my sword is warm to the touch - lots of action....

My Wizard PM can beat him down with a Vicious of greater Construct bane quarter staff in about 4 min. Easy.

Bring some melees along or pull out a weapon yourself.

Not every quest should be easily soloable by the same character.

Some quests are easier for arcanes, some for divines, some for archers, some <cough> for melee.

Wow, so your ONE spell that you have to use on bosses didn't work in ONE situation and you are complaining about it?

Try being mildly less one dimensional and you wouldn't need to post embarrasing fails on the forums :P

I will break out a melee weapon on my casters at times. And that is one of those times.

This game is far from one dimensional, but too many people try to play one dimensionally.

Bro... Isn't he like the ONLY mob immune to light or something? I know LOB is resistant. But, geez. Arcanes deal with immunities far more than divines. Yes, they have other elements. But, so do you. You got fire, or you got weapon. Ready go.
