View Full Version : Did rust monsters get a huge beef recently?

So I was running Stromvauld's Mine yesterday on normal(level 8 quest) on a level 9 artificer. I brought a level 7 hireling along because I had 2 left and nothing else to do with them. I have run this quest easily dozens of times as its a good f2p leveling quest, can be soloed at level with an artificer, and is handy for power-leveling my guildmates.

I got as far as the first rust monster. It went stun-stun-stun-stun-stun-kill. In about 9 seconds. The entire time I was stunned, unable to heal or attack. My ******** hireling just sort of stood there like a moron. Bare in mind this is roughly 30 seconds into the quest.

So I released, repaired, rested, restocked, reset, and went back in.

First rust monster: stun-stun-stun-stun-stun-kill. This happened three times before I gave up and went to do something else. I once soloed this quest on normal with a level 7 artificer and no hireling. I've run it many times, and fought rust monsters all over the place.

So did I find a glitch, or did rust monsters just get a pretty severe boost?

Is your artificer a warforged?

Artificer is warforged. First time on this particular artificer, but I've done it easily 10-15 times on other WF artificers. Never been hit so bad before.

Just lucky in the past then. Rust monsters can easily chain-stun a warforged who lets them get in melee range and have been able to do so for years. You can block the stun, iirc, but then you aren't doing any damage, so its not a whole lot of help.

I guess its possible they have more Iron in their diet or something. The DC of their stun is a fortitude save vs the rust monsters CON score, per the wiki. How does your fortitude score compare to your other WF Arties?

Its possible this guy has a much lower fortitude save than my previous artificers(i've been in melee range and didn't even know they HAD a stun). I basically use vet-2 to make a level 7, give him one two pieces of essential gear, then use him to power-level guildies until they get up to 9 or ten. After that the gear gets hand-me-downed to the next WF artificer(this is number 3). I tweak the build a little each time, so I probably put a few points elsewhere and ended up with a low fortitude save.

Thanks! That explains a lot!

Might be a good idea to range rust monsters when you are on a WF artificer.

Just sayin'

Might also be a symptom of the new changes: don't ignore your saves anymore. They matter even without reching the very high values. Saving 50% here would already help a lot.

Could be laggy connection.

Got hit by a trap no less than 6 times the other day within 1 animation.

I was about to ask why the OP was close enough to get stunned. Especially when the options for bait include flame turret and various fleshy hirelings.

They've been doing that for years now, you have been very lucky to go this long and not know about it.

If the rusty's stun save is really based on their con score, maybe consider making a wounding of puncturing repeater just for them.
