This is an odd one, and it is easily worked around so not a major issue.

When I load up the client, if I am not actually viewing the loading screen (I.E. am browsing forums or some such) when I log in, I will have no sound at all. My sound drivers will not be active in game (not even selectable in the sound system). They still work fine out of game and if I restart the client and actually watch the loading screen this time they will work fine. My sound is a generic AMD built on the motherboard but the drivers are all up to date.

Anyone else have this issue? Just curious

It is odd but I think I suspect what it at least might be. What you want to do is right-click the speaker icon near the Windows clock. Choose "Playback devices" from the menu, and in there should be "Speakers - [Your Sound Card]" or similar.

Right-click on that and choose Properties and go under the 'advanced' tab and find the "Allow programs to take exclusive control of this device" option and if it's enabled de-select it and click ok.

Let me know if that has an effect.

That's great. Also had the same issue (I suspect many do) but it was sporadic enough that I never really bothered to report it. Just made the change and tried starting the game, minimizing its window as soon as the loading screen came up, and instead focusing on the browser window. This usually will mean no sound for me, but the sound is working. Thanks for the fix!

I had this issue once, and even restarting the client wouldn't fix it. I had to go into the game sound settings, change the playback option to something else, and then back to what it was supposed to be.

I think I had a youtube video and a web radio stream going at the same time when DDO went to play the opening music.

that seems to have worked. Thank you.
