I just can't beleive Turbine did this to me. I was an original Beta player and Founder for DDO when it launched and played it all the way till it went to F2P after it went F2P I spent a bit in the Turbine store but overall I got bored and took a break. I got into EVE Online and have been playing it solidly since 2006 and still play it so I stopped playing DDO. However, my EVE buddy finally got into DDO and loves it. I told him what server to play on and he wanted me to come play with him. I go to log in and ALL my characters are deleted?! Really?! So I was told that after 6 months of inactivity your account is cleared? I understand making room for new players and such with data but the lack of persistance has driven me off for good.

I'm sorry Turbine but that was the worst decision you can make. I can take a 2 year break in EVE online and go back to my characters whenever I want.... bye

Edit: I apologize for the tone of this initial post. I was very upset to lose things I worked so hard on when I was excited to come back to a game i enjoyed years ago. Seeing that others have taken long breaks with no losses has given me hope. I am in discussion with GMs about it now. Thank you.

That's not true. Characters are never deleted.

You likely logged into the wrong server. Log into all of them 1 after the other and you will find your characters.

They don't delete characters... Either you logged into the wrong server, or there's an error somewhere... call tech support, they'll get your characters back for you.

I took about a year off when I first started and all my toons were still there.

Although it would not suprise me if you asked them about it and they just gave you some BS (bad storytelling) answer because they didn't know what happened to the chars.

To add a lil more, if you look up an old toon it will say that the char is archived which I can only assume means to Turbine what it means to the rest of the english speaking community...(and does not mean deleted after 6 months)

I took a year-and-a-half break from DDO after I stopped playing, I was F2P at the time. When I came back, both my characters were still there. You likely logged into the wrong server (maybe there was a merge, and all your characters are in a server with a different name compared to the one you created your characters in)

Because, as others before me have said - Turbine has said on many and every occasion to do so, they never clear accounts or character info. They want former players to come back, not drive them away by zeroing out their efforts. This has been said over and over again in the debates on clearing up names in inactive accounts - Turbine will never change or delete your characters.


There is either more going on here then the OP is saying, or a rather large misunderstanding is taking place.

There might be 'deleted' chars.
Turbine may not do, but other inviolved parties have done w no further comments (japanese language server..)

European chars that did not request transfer to Turbine servers when CM closed may not be around anymore.
Else they are found on Ghallanda.

But as for beeing special beta-tester' :
well ... endgamers especially are still testing beta in-game all the time m8, never did otherwise
- right now theyre testing Harpers Favor-quest betas
and it takes 3 days for a 'founder' to get ready for doing it:-D

Just to chime in with what other people are saying: When the Artificer first came out I raged and quit over the principle of the thing and was gone for about 9 months. When I returned all my characters were still fine and dandy. I don't believe they ever "clear an account" so I'd check all the servers and if you still can't find them, contact support.

I stopped playing in 2009 sometime. I just came back a month ago.. all my characters were still available.

I have taken a couple of long breaks as well. When coming back all my stuff seemed intact.

I would hate to think that this guy was a victim of the Mabar Bug. If I recall, even people that didn't log in for a long time still received emails. Other than that, I cannot think of an automated way that could happen.

People on here been saying never give your password to anyone. That is sound advice. I hope you didn't, as that could be the reason you do not have anymore characters.

Can agree with everyone here. In 2009 I left for LOTRO, I played there for a good 8-9 months and every one of my characters were waiting. I'd search for them in MyDDO. Just search for players and your log on name. That should give you a character list on the bottom left hand side. If that doesn't work call the Account Management folks.

Figured I'd do a test since when I started as f2p I played on a different server than I play on now. I figured that character was deleted since he did not show up in my characters for my myddo. Logged in to that old server and he still exists in his original level 2 adventurer glory.

With that revelation, I would suggest as others have suggested and check other servers or contact support.

I'm a rogue, so I don't have intimidate, for diplo I just run to the closest fighter. I have tried to bluff the chests but not sure if its worth the effort.

I would check MYDDO... That would give you a jump off point for every character you used to have.

For the sake of being thorough, did you actually check all of the servers? Also, did you double, triple check the account name you were signing in with?

I think that's him, I'm not certain but the names ring a bell. I've been here since the start on Sarlona and as soon as I saw the post it struck me that I knew him and his Guild at one point. Mattax perhaps you had another account/email address back then and your characters are still on Sarlona on that account.
If an in-game GM can't help you, try calling the account support phone, the folks there are great.

Well, even if we'd craft a natural armor neck slot item, it would be called 'necklace of natural armor +x' instead of amulet of natural armor, which kinda points out it's a named item already (as our items show the ******** numbers...)

yes, he's mine, I really should delete him but he was one of my first, and is on a server I don't play on anymore, however, him not being archived makes me assume that character archiving is done after the account has been inactive for x time, and all characters are brought out of their archived state when the account resumes activity.

And I did say that his current update made me quirk an eyebrow, so either the OP has access to his account, or someone else has. What might have happened is that the gamemaster he had contact with reinstated his characters perhaps? not entirely sure how that works though (his post is early AM after all...)

I took an almost 3 year break and all my characters were still there when I logged back on, so that's very much not the case. If something went wrong, I would try to see if they can restore them.

lol ahhh ya I don't think so. In fact I cant even think of an mmo that actually deletes characters anymore. Hell I havn't played eq2, eq, eve, or ffxi in years. I can guarantee each of those games is still holding my ancient characters or ships.

Soe might of became the cheapest mothers out there claiming a pathetic f2p system, but the chars are still sitting, on 2 servers.

Could we suggest a "possible" clearing of REALLY old (like 5 years) toons so we could at least get their really good names?

I hate having to spend HOURS looking for a good roleplaying name for my toons!!!

I don't necessarily want to delete the old toons, but just let us have their names, and if the person from 5 years ago logs back on, they get a re-name.

Hell, let people BUY their old names for the same cost as a rename (basically buying the other account a rename, if they ever log back on), if the toon, or better yet, account, hasn't logged on in 5 years.

SOE officially shut down SWG on December 15, 2011. There is one group trying to emulate the Pre-CU era of SWG while another is working on emulating the final version of SWG a few days before they shut down. Neither group is farther along than an Alpha state at best.

As for the OP, I bought DDO about a month after it released and played for the free 30 days. After that I didn't return to DDO until a little over a year ago. That first character that I'd made was still around. I know that you've mentioned you are contacting a GM. I would recommend doing that via phone. In the time I've been back I've yet to have an in-game GM that resolved a single issue. Phone support has been stellar though with only one issue that they could not resolve.
