Bingo, my friend you nailed it right on the head, I can remember many eons ago when there was an argument against going against F2P and having a DDO Store (And I think F2P saved the game). The argument was once they had a store where people could spend additional real money that everything in the game would be adjusted and twisted in order to lead people to spending more cash. Some of the people argued that the game would be adjusted in ways that people couldn't avoid(Instakill traps<-especially in F2P content, or more instakill spells with ridiculous damage) buying odds and ends from the store!

Note I am not complaining about the above, they are simply dealt with in certain gaming manners, but they definitely are designed to suck cash out of other non-suspecting F2P's (I am VIP).

P.S. I love The Disruptor Challenge needing extra turrets to earn Challenge stars, where to get extra turrets, lol, the ddo store.

My advice, dont let these tactics encourage people to buy trinket stuff from the ddo store, this may eventually convince the devs to stop building code in this manner!

Yes. Certainly. Absolutely.

Businesses will do that which is likely to increase their revenue. It's one of the prominent theories of economics (though I don't particularly agree with the lack of complexity in the theory).

The problem would come if that was the ONLY method by which to run the content. Some of us never have bought a cake (other than the 5 TP one from the Korthos quest just to complete it), never bought pots, never bought anything from the store that would help us complete a high level quest - and we manage just fine.

It is theoretically possible to keep making characters until you own the entire content of the game on an account and never even spend a single penny. As long as that remains true, then whatever else people decide to actually spend money on is their choice and Turbine's gain.

Fully agree, and running in a gear restrictive Permadeath guild, we dont promote(as a matter of fact ban nearly all of its use) the ddo store in anyway, assist our few and hand picked F2P players in earning favor to purchase packs without spending a nickel, quest completion is not an issue without buying consumables or ddo store nick nacks!

My point above in the advice given simply reflects that stop encouraging the devs to build the system with such flaws that it seems like DDO store nick nacks are needed, by just refusing to purchase the nick nacks in the first place.

As far as economics, it is only unfortunate that there are so many people that will pay for a crumb when they should wait for the whole cake, in other words give me good stuff or I am not buying. I can honestly say, I am extremely happy I did not buy the expansion, I was waiting to see if they were going to make it available with store points(something to use my VIP points on) and if they didnt eventually the game would have its end for me.

As a side note, after watching how this game has operated, I may be locked into this game because of my pen and paper background(and love for the D&D name), but you can be rest assured that any company that has been attached to the progress of this game from the F2P point on, will never see me invest a single minute in any other game they produce or have ties to.
