Shroud crafting . . . "worth it?"

Hi All.

I'm a returning player. Haven't played in 3 years? Level cap was 16. (this game was hella fun years ago, and from what I've played so far it is hellaer more fun.)

I salvaged and deleted my old chars and am churning through a new set.

Was wondering if shroud crafting was still worthwhile? I have a large ingredients bag filled with dozens of every shroud ingredient there is. I am wondering, should I trade it on the auction house for essences crafting in House K or keep it?

Shroud accessories still don't have any other in game counterparts really. Shroud weapons while slightly obsolete
at cap are still insanely good at lvl 12 and decent if not great at cap. I'd say look at what builds you will be
making but don't throw the ingredients out for sure.

Depends on if you plan to TR or not.

Nothing will ever come close to the boost that taking GS out of TR cache at lvl 11/12 gives you on a TR.

And a Shroud HP item cannot be replaced by anything yet.

HP/SP items are still awesome, and some other boni don't appear anywhere else still. That being said, the weapons have surely taken a hit compared to endgame stuff, but all of them are still the most awesome thing in any melees tr cache. Overall, gs is in a pretty good place for now.

As with most things, it depends on what you want from the game. For my play style, it's not worth it because I tend to not TR and tend to dislike grinding for gear. But some people love that and think it's the most fun part of the game. I prefer leveling up to grinding for gear, and most people think leveling up is a worse grind than the gear grind. People want different thngs from the game. The GS gear is really excellent, particualrly for the ML on it. So if gear is important to your play style then I would think it would be well worth it to you. But it's not to me.

Agree with other responses... For multiple accessories, you will need to cleanse your Taint...

If you are on Thelanis, GS is junk and i'll take those larges off your hands cheap... :D

By the way, Shroud crafting can now be done on the guild airships (introduced 2 years ago-ish) that have the appropriate altars, so if you have all your ingredients ready to go...

You could get a conc-opp but very few of the new quests have opportunities or need to restore mana with one. If you're not interested in that and not TRing I wouldn't bother.

edit: And the conc opp thing is because you have a HUGE manapool at endgame now, and the quests have plenty of shrines. That, and mobs hit very hard to the point you'd be wasting a lot of mana on healing.

Can't agree with that. When I was soloing epic elite unquiet graves I regened more then a full mana bar from
archers in between the incanters. Got about half a mana bar in ee impossible demands. Now I'll admit these
are really easy quests, but still conc opp and torc is definitely worth it and even with 2600 sp, 2 gloves bauble,
epic and non epic talisman on my wizard I can use extra.

While the SP regen is nice from these items I've personally found the HP procs from these to be way more often and help to mitigate a lot of damage.

Especially if you have an item and a weapon....and...

get hit by a lag spike...

I am much more able to survive through most lag spikes with an item and weapon...

While it is true that random loot items and certain named items have duplicated some of the Green Steel enhancements, there is still nothing in the game (save for maybe Cannith crafted items- no idea about how good they can be) that duplicates the ability for the player to choose what particular enhancements he wants and where he wants them slotted. For that reason alone, I'd certainly say that Shroud crafting is "worth it".

Also....might be too late for this, as you said that you deleted your old characters, but you can now deconstruct Green Steel items by using Yellow Dopant. You won't get back all of your ingrediants, but you will get some of them back along with, if I'm not mistaken, the GS blank. Dopant was an insanely rare drop from Shroud completion (and possibly part 5 chests) but now might be an option on 20th completions and multiples of 20th's (40th, 60th, etc.). If you haven't already deleted old GS items, you might want to bank them for future deconstruction.

Shroud Crafting Items/Weapons is no longer the end goal for "Best In Slot" that is true.

However, It still shines in two areas...

1. Level 11/12 - GS still offers more power than the random generated items and is available 2+ Levels before most raid loot.

2. Customization - Players have the most control and thus can craft GS items around their other items


There should still be a reason to "Shroud" as there are a few items not yet available on the random list as well as even those items don't necessarily consolidate bonuses as easily as you can on a GS Item.

Oh well, it's all good. I love playing the game. Level grinding, gear grinding, it's all the same. Fun game, fun peeps.

+45 Hp items, skill boost items, various clickies, are all still good. Weapons are still good in a lot of situations, there are just a lot more options now for high end weapons.

Once you are into Epic level loot, the random drop weapons are often better then GS but until you get one GS is still pretty good.
