View Full Version : Two questions regarding Monster Manual

I had no chance to log on since Update 15, so am asking on the assumption MM is back. If it is not, my questions are for the time being unanswerable.

1. Some people managed to get Mastery Reward (can see enemy's HP) at least on Sahuagin before MM Prologue went off-line. Does it allow you to see HP on friendly creatures and/or pets? I don't know of any way to get a sahuagin pet, but "Into the Deep" has friendly sahuagin who can be targeted and healed. Does their HP show up? And of course getting rat or spider pet is easy, but I do not know if anyone got rat or spider Mastery yet.

2. Did MM record the spiders/rats/sahuagin you killed since it went off-line? I am sure the answer is no, but one can hope!

It shoudn't be showing friendly/non combat NPC HP any more. that was a bug.

Apparently the MM was utterly reset per a guildie so every one has to start over. (which if true, I find highly insulting on top of the inability to fix bugs but just changing descriptions.)

That IS insulting, I agree.

A number of people were upset about apparent[1] fact that Sahuagin Mastery requires you to do Grotto. Even if true, why is it such a big deal? Creature knowledge is for account, not for toon. Surely you have an unused character slot on SOME server? It only takes a few minutes to roll up a character and get through Grotto. Unless "account deeds" are per server rather than per account?

[1] I do not have the links handy, but counting both Grotto and Kobold Island challenge, there are actually 38 sahuagin types in the game, whereas Mastery requires 36

Missing_Minds, I find your sig line rather amusing, considering that Rigel is a supergiant star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigel)

I have somehow kept my Sahuagin and Rat Masteries (the ability to see enemy HP) intact, along with the Artwork and Lore I had prior to the Prologue being taken down.

My kill count, however, restarted from 0 and I had no types listed save the 1 I killed to re-activate the entry. Weird no?

I'll check on the friendly ITD Sahuagin right now and edit this post once I do.

EDIT: You can see some of their HP.

i.e. Not Vizera (the guy you talk to just before you go into the aquadome, but you can see the Rebel Sahuagin Guard's HP, Priest Ni Sek, and Rebel in Disguise's HP.

Incidentally, I think there are 40 or 41 Sahuagin types counting everything. The manual's working properly across the account too now anyway, so it should be easy to get the Grotto ones.

Previous to U15 you did NOT have to do grotto to get Mastery. The thing is many people did not go hunting to find the needed number for Mastery. Many forgot about Kobold Island at lvl 4-15 because most were too high level to care about it.

That is true about Rigel, but it is also the name of a character in Farscape.

You may consider yourself lucky, my MM deeds were wiped clean.

That's actually what I expected. You cannot see HP on sahuagin who never engage in combat, hence their HP is unimportant and probably does not even exist. You can see it on friendly ones who can be harmed or healed.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise.

Monday night I only played Mystaras -- a character which had not quested in a long time, so his Monster Manual started out empty. At the end of the session he had a few troll and spider entries from Ataraxia.

Tuesday night I logged onto my main Soondar and soloed "Spinner of Shadows". When I opened MM, I expected to see spiders from that quest, plus darkfangs and Hellgut Mystaras (actually, his party) found the night before. They were there, but also all Crimsonfoot types and all spiders from "Beyond the Rift". All of which Soondar acquired AFTER initial Prologue was taken down. IOW, MM was down but still keeping track of my kills. Soondar had 14 spider types in "personal achievements" (16 or 17 in "account achievements"), and it did not take me long to get to 20. At which point I found out that xp from MM achievements is NOT affected by tome of learning, xp potions, or Voice of the Master. Oh well! :)

It actually wasn't a 100% reset because I retained some of my kills.* I had no Deeds completed though so I can't say anything about that part.

I suspect that it was more of a rollback then a reset, although that's just conjecture on my part.

*and yes, I'm positive that I'm not just seeing 'new' kills because Merideth and The Thristy One are on my lists and I haven't ran Lords of Dust or been to Sands in weeks.

Hello All,

I was worried about this exact thing, I was waiting patiently for the MM to come back, allthe while say, " I hope they didn't wipe my progress " Thankfully all is well.

The Account deeds work across toons, but Character and Mastery you have to do for each and every toon, or that is the way it is supposed to work as far as I can tell. if they didn't do this everyone would be milking the special rewards. A few of my friends said they lost theirs but they gave it a little time and the progress came back. Must have been a server thing. I know when I bought MoTU I was able to play content right away, but my friend could for a little over an hour, and we bought it at the same time and live in the same area,so that was really weird.

My only gripe, the TP cost of the manual in the store, that is just an insane price to charge for a few monsters in a book, how long is it going to take for oozes and rustys, it's not like your going to find a lair somewhere. There will be some grinders out there but it will be far better for ones sanity to just buy the companion, then spend the crazy amount of time on finding kills for a meager, companion.

You have to be really board to try and fill Rustys and Oozes in the manual.

Cheers! W.W.

Do slayer rewards require same numbers on each creature type? It is a lot easier to find and kill 1000 kobolds or spiders than 1000 oozes or elves -- especially considering drow do not count as elves.

twilight forge adv tunnels.

endless spawns in Von 4, and possibly The Pit.

Co6 (or is it graymoon? Probably graymoon) one quest that has the drop into a pit of rusties.

Assuming you are talking grinding out the kills.
If you mean uniques... I'll be hunting that up soon enough.

It is Graymoon, and there are only 4-6 rusties in that pit.

The best place to "farm rusties" is IMO Ataraxia shoreline, and that one is pretty lean.

As I recall, it's only 3,500 Halflings for final extermination, but up to 12,000 for others.

Understandable. Halflings are in short supply.

How about Rainbow in the Dark? Sometimes I go in there and only see a few Rusties but other times there's more of them than the earth elementals.

Considering how long it takes to complete Rainbow, run-reset-run Ataraxia should net you rusties a lot faster. Unless you mean just the initial corridor with rust monsters and elementals, then recall and reset? That would work... but since it gets you nothing BUT kill count, it is firmly in my definition of "insane".

Gwylan's Stand? There's 4 or 5 before the swim in the cave right at the start, IIRC.

Ataraxia, Gwylan's Den, Rainbow -- does not matter. Nowhere in DDO exists a place where you could rack up rust monster kills the way you can with spiders in Spinner of Shadows, or kobolds in almost every Harbor quest. Even halflings are easier to rack up, as Purge the Heretics is a very quick quest.
