View Full Version : Let's cut Coyle some slack.

Sure Mr. Lovell is supposed to be trained in the mystical arts but lets face it. If he was any good, he wouldn't have been stuck as the foreman of a dig.

On the other hand we have Lars Heyton, famous caster dude with his bodyguard Amalgam. They should be a dream team of combat.

I hit level 8 on my eleventh life (bard) and got stoned. To get to eight I soloed the first quests on hard for speed. Hooked up with friends after Korthos and ran elite from there on. After getting stoned, I decided to go back to Korthos to clean up the favor. A guildie of mine came along. We had the agenda of running all of Korthos in one hour.

We get to the quest Redemption, tear through it, get to the end in about a minute. I toss out a couple smoky balls (dancing balls with mind fog... yeah, not necessary, but I try to stay in the habit). The Sahuagin begin jumping out of the water and immediately start doing a jig. We dispatch them as they come. A few waves later Amalgam starts dancing, "wha?". Then we were outside the quest. We had failed. Mr. Heyton had died. After we cleared the tears of laughter from our eyes, we started discussing "how" he could have possibly bit the dust.

After much debate, we decided, with all the excitement, the old sot had a heart attack. We re-ran the quest, I kept an eye on his ticker, gave him a few chest pumps to keep him going, and we completed. Hope he isn't planning on fighting anything big, like a dragon. If he does, I'll tell him to run, it'll keep him alive and be good for his heart.

Ah, Coyle gets no love! The boy isn't just an old coot with a bad ticker, he's positively suicidal and trying to ruin my very best attempts to save him! Comletely rude creepy foreman. :) Lars gets a pass for being ancient at least.

You should have stopped this thread title after the third word.

Sure I'm going to cut some slack to Coyle, as he's going to marry Ana....

After seeing Ana, I'm not sure which one is the worst the current Coyle or Ana.

( now I won't even talk about the old unhealable-unstunnable-Coyle you had to box in a corner with 3/4 people while the rest of the party dealt with the quest... This one has his own category for himself. )

Worse than Coyle:
Rats in Tomb of the Tormented
The Venerated
Heyton
The foreman who is also in threnal (literally dies from a single hit with how low his HP is)

I must disagree with the rats, I had a little buddy successfully beat a carcass eater and a worg. And he didn't have buffs from our caster. Unfortunately, he then got pureed in a trap. A moment of silence please.

How could this possibly happen? Without buffs it takes me a steady stream of rats for several minutes to kill a single worg. :(

You missed the fact that Celimas swatted his rear which gave him a heart attack.

Either that or it was Jeets who was jeleous of him for catching Celimas's attention.

Too bad Hayton never had the chance to tell Celimas he wasn't interested. He always had the amalgam of toys in his workshop for a reason.

He was a lucky little guy (a lotta 20 rolls from him and 1s from the others).

Hmmm, and here I thought from his last line in Redemption he had a creepy love-hate relationship with the Sauhaugin.

And here I was trying to avoid the horrid "smells like tuna" jokes. (thought there was plenty of that in... blade 2? or was it 3? I forget, but it was bad.)

Whenever I think about giving Coyle some slack I remember the description on the Rune Arm from the Threnal series, which is aptly named Recoyle.

The text is, "A part of his spirit lingers on, and is STILL causing you problems."

You missed the part where the runearm makes all your spells cause a lot more aggro.

His caster was an arcane whit death aura on, it heals the rats and hurt the worgs.

My PM life run of Tormented was fun indeed (thought they fixed that btw). I was referring to a couple lives ago, tbh, it was just good rolls on my rat buddies part.

And in the context of the OP, the rat can at least take a few punches before he goes down.

I've often dreamed of shoving Coyle, Ana (because seriously, they belong together), and most of the healing hirelings onto the minefield in Undermine. If any of them make it out alive I will welcome them back into my gamelife.

Coyle isn't a foreman, he's a researcher. And his name isn't even Coyle... He really deserves to die. It stinks that we don't get to kill him.

This reminds me of Ghost Nappa if anyone gets the reference. Makes me chuckle. Such a good parody.

If you ever manage to complete that quest, just finish the third chain and learn that Coyle has reasons to be less then skilled. On the bright side, they allow you to hate him even more! ;-)

If it makes you feel better, you can give Coyle a virtual punch in the face:

None of those are anywhere near as bad as Coyle.

Coyle has around 100 hitpoints on elite, a single mephit can pretty much instakill him.

Those others are extremely easy to duo, Coyle was a constant PITA.

If I could /squelch ana I can tolerate her

coyle ahh fond memories of standing in a corner beating on a golem watching him scorching ray it over and over.

i like ana. Unlike Coyle she can actually heal herself or do some stuff. she isnt as squishy as coyle either.

Goin back to Tomb of the Tormented, i was afraid of this quest, always someone was doin maze and it took ages, this life i decided to give it a try, i done maze in 13 min, it is super easy, like 2-3 blind ways rest is just straight and easy + spike trap that can be avoided. And as arti hand of the tomb runearm can kill mobs down there :)

So, Coyle's met his absolute match. In King's Forest there's a random encounter where you escort a woman to Eveningstar. This woman is a psychotic murderer who will run after every mob she sees, from squirrels and birds to drow and dire bears. She will then proceed to punching them, and most likely aggroing even more mobs.

It's insane.
