I have 15 characters in total, and I have never been in this raid before.
Reason being: I've never unlocked it. I simply never make time to.
It just takes way too long to assemble the Sigil, and you'd need to repeat the Necro 4 quests several times, or farm the heck out of the Orchard rares before it's completed. In order to gain entrance you literally need to stop everything else and focus on repeating N4 content for a significant amount of time.
Now the problem is; this isn't Gianthold. And LotD is generally not liked by people.
So I'd say the flagging mechanic needs to be rethought in Necro 4 to be more realistic. Either lower the amount of pieces the Sigil is made out of, or drop it altogether and turn the quests themselves into the flagging mechanic.
At the very least make each quest have a 100% chance of dropping their sigil.

I got my sigil in one run of each quest on my flagged toon :p
I was in a sigil farming group where most of the people already had the sigil parts they needed and I got a lot passed to me on each run.
Still...8 runs, at least, more if you're unlucky with the sigils, or less with a lot of slayers...and then to repeat a pre-raid 4 times...easily the worst flagging mechanics in the game now.

The flagging mechanism is fine. Run through on normal mode if you really need to for sigils. Consider that for the new raid, you need to run through FOUR quest chains as well as HUGE explorer zones, flagging for abbot really isn't that hard.

For a TR2+ its not that hard, you need the good XP anyway from flagging quests/Litany, and for the next life you will have left overs, and won't need to even get all sigil pieces.

Once you TR, you will be running Necro IV for XP regardless of whether you run Ascension Chamber or not. As a matter of fact, running Necro IV and Litany of the Dead for XP without running Abbot is more common than not.

3 runs of each quest in a full group, and everyone has their sigil plus a good headstart on a second one (in case you TR). Supplement with Orchard slayers if you want.

ya, they buffed orchard/necro 4 drops big time. It used to be very tough to put together a tome or shield, now it's cake. Sigil is much easier as well, especially with pieces dropping in the wilderness rare chests.
the real problem is the raid. once you get to it, you'll regret ever having spent the putting the sigil together. It's one nasty mofo.

Usually it's gethering up people that wanna go that's the problem. I think I flagged for that once on some char that needed something from there. Can't even remember which one.
After that never bothered again. Just farmed a couple quests out there in the orchard and trecked on to 20.

I flag for LotD every life as a matter of course as the preraid is some of the best xp around, I run it to -90% and then down to casual for a big chunk of XP.
The flagging quests are great. All of them can be run multiple times on one difficulty for excellent XP though Fleshmakers is annoying (air elemental knockdown) and not many people know inferno well enough (though it's as fast as vol in a good group).
Yeah, no issue with flagging though I can understand if you get to 20 and then want to flag that it would be annoying, definitely one that you want to hit while leveling.
The quests themselves definitely favour casters though a well geared non-caster can do very well in there, it's hilarious how much fun I have with my triple positive bow on my archer for instance with 10k stars/Manyshot and improved precise shot, I just love the pops from all the shadows exploding.

As an altoholic myself, I have always put my sigils up for roll. This decision is made a fair bit easier by fear of the item-eating bug in Abbott.
Even then I have 2 characters with full frames...but I have farmed Fleshmakers and GOP in particular too many times, in search of Belt of Thoughtful Remembrance and Cloak of Ice. The others I was just lucky!
Overall I've spent way too much time in the Orchard farming taps for too many characters. The quests are great, but the wilderness zone is a bit depressing to spend so much time in, I've been putting off my return to the Orchard for a while now ;)

Either you're in really good inferno groups or really bad vol groups :)

Farmed GoP yesterday - Then ran Vol Elite before i had to go.
I now have 6 Left Pincers!
I have zero Right Frames!
Farmed Fleshmaker's beforehand {A while back - I also have many alts} on this toon.
We were farming GoP and Vol because the Party Leader loathes Inferno - Me too!
with me and the Party Leader searching for that Right Frame - We didn't see one drop with a minimum of four people in group every time {I missed a coupla runs handing in - God these guys were fast}.
I hope that Party Leader got his Right Frame from Vol.

Very easy flagging, good XP, they can't make it any easier than to just give it to you. Soloable but lots of groups up for it every day anyway.

Inferno enrages me to a degree not even Tomb of the Tormented or Coal Chamber do. Not just because I don't know what to do, because it just flat out malfunctions at times.
Even on my third+ lives I tend to skip most of Necro 4. It's good XP yes but the quests and raid are so, so bad.

Necro 4 is the best place to go in mid levels. The quests give really good xp and to complete a sigil, you normally have to run the quests several times. The xp usually off sets the sigil farm. Usually you can find xp/sigil farmer groups in that level range. You do kinda have to put other quests on hold if you want to complete your sigil, but its not like theres a lot of quests in that level range, especially ones that give such good xp. A lot of times, if you out level necro 4, you can still find high level sigil farmers. A sigil farming group can usually complete their sigils in a few runs per quest.

Building a sigil does take time when you start from scratch. But at the same time you get extra sigil pieces that stack on top of the first making it easy to rebuild it for subsequent lives.
The time spent in necro 4 rewards great XP while you build the sigil and running litany is easy without doing the flagging optionals.

Yeah, a triple pos is very fun there while cleaving through mobs :D Definitely worth 3 LDS.
