Locked door in House of Death Undone

There is a locked door guarding a required objective (destroying the cauldron in the library) that I could not find any other way to bypass except by picking it/knocking it. Lacking those abilities on my ranger I was forced to buy a bell of opening from the ddo store.

I'm very disappointed by that, normally if it's required that you get past a locked door there are alternatives available (finding a key, killing a certain boss, etc). This locked door doesn't seem to be doing anything special except ruining the quest experience for other classes that can't pick or knock.

There is a key around? Alright that's good to know. I ran around the entire dungeon using the find nearest object key to look for that kind of thing but apparently I missed it. Thanks.

If you turn your face away from the door to the opposite wall, you'll see the entrance to the alcove glowbug mentioned. The key is sitting on a table - it does have some sparkles, but they are a little muted.

If you examine the door (click and use the orb button or a hotkey) it will tell if there is a key that can open it, and the named of said key.

Probably best to check that at least before spending your ddo points next time.
