I have a 12/6/2 (Fgt/Rng/Rog) - which I want to respec to 18/2 (Fgt/Rog) as I'm underwhelmed with TWF in
MotU. I assume I'm boned unless I spec. out the Rogue levels first? e.g. I'd need a +3 then a +5 heart

I don't think I understand your problem.

You say you are 12 fighter, 6 ranger and 2 rogue and that you want to become 18 fighter and 2 rogue. Why would you think you need to do anything to the rogue levels?

If, for whatever reason, you did not take rogue at level 1 and you now want to change that (to get more skill points) then of course you'll have to finagle with the +5 and then a +3. But, if you simply leave your rogue levels where they are then the only thing you need to do is change the ranger levels to fighter levels.

For that you only need a +5 and a +1 or two +3 heart woods. I don't know which you have or if you are acquiring via DDO store or AH. But, you only need enough to respec the 6 ranger levels. I'd go with whatever is the least number of Turbine points in the store if I was buying them there. And, I'd wait until a sale to do it. ;)

As you LR with a +heart, you get your levels back in the order you first acquired them. So if you went Rogue first (as I assume you did) then your first level will by default be Rogue unless you change it. However, you are told each time you change a class selection that you have x number of class changes remaining and you can take them at any point in the process; you're not restricted to swapping out your first level first and so on.

So if, for instance, you had taken two levels of Rogue then six levels of Ranger, with a +5 heart you just accept the first two levels of Rogue, change the next five from Ranger to Fighter and then you'll have to take the rest as they were. A week later you can use a +1 heart to swap out the final Ranger level.

In that hypothetical case, your first +5 LR would look like this...

Starting with: Rog/Rog/Rgr/Rgr/Rgr/Rgr/Rgr/Rgr/Ftr(x12)

Change to: Rog/Rog/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Rgr/Ftr(x12)

Then your followup +1 LR would finally alter it to:

Rog/Rog/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr/Ftr(x12)

EDIT: Hmmm, that's a confusing layout. Looks better like this:

Rog(x2)/Rgr(x6)/Ftr(x12) > LR +5 > Rog(x2)/Ftr(x5)/Rgr/Ftr(x12) > LR +1 > Rog(x2)/Ftr(x18)

:D

Scratch that - I'm an idiot! ;)

I was working on the assumption that I'd end up with four classes If I used a +5 heart - of course I'm spec'ing
into a class I already have, not a new one (my usual scenario).

LOL! I've had the issue with 4 classes before so totally understand. :D

You would need 2 +3 tomes and 7 days inbetween the LRs to do that.

Do rogue at level 1 and rogue at level 11 for you two rogue levels. It's tough for fighter to get enough action points to keep trapping or UMD up high enough. You can do one or the other in most cases on a fighter/rogue.

If he's a first life, I advise against it. I would rather TR instead and run him through his second life as an 18/2. The extra 2 stat points will make it easier to get to a high enough intelligence to get what you need. If you go human, you'll need a 14 int to keep up with rogue skills assuming you do rogue at level 1 and 11. You can do it with 12 if you forgoe spot, but considering you're asking about this, I'd probably keep spot.

By doing it this way, you can TR once you have crafted a min 2 great axe and a shroud item (probably a hit point displacement item with as many charisma skill points as you can get for UMD), they are fantastic). Then you can feel all overpowered once you hit 11/12 on your next life.

Beat me to it. I would also recommend a TR.

A greater heart is easy enough to farm in the cannith challenges too. Saves a lot of TP, so spend the difference on xp pots or a greater tome of learning and get the passive PL benefits as well as a mountain of twink gear. With 35% bonus xp coming up I really can't think of a better time to do it.

Thanks for the advice. I pretty much exclusively play casters and solo a lot. This guys is just for me to hit stuff
when I feel like doing something differenct. Given I already have a greater XP tome on him then I might just do the TR.
