View Full Version : I hate my new Bauble

Honestly, I love the Bauble. It's a phenomenal item, particularly because it does the same job for free, once per rest, that pots from the DDO store do. The fact that an item of that kind of real-life power exists (seriously, each click is worth like 18 cents of real-world money) in this game is a testament to the devs' love for us. Very few companies would do something like that. However, today was like a punch in the face.

I have casters. Like, a lot of them. Each of these casters has been run through Weapons Shipment over and over again, frequently in full parties of people willing to pass me a Bauble if it dropped, and generally on elite, to maximize drop chances. Not once did I even see it in a chest. It had entirely eluded me for literally years.

Today, I soloed it on a melee. Once. On normal. Got a Bauble.

If you guys could just... you know... go ahead and put it on my sorcerer instead, that would be much appreciated. If not, I guess my pally will just enjoy having 100 more divine sacrifices in every quest. waump.

Take Maximize, take Quicken, slot Devotion, enjoy.

Or alternatively, if this keeps happening, TR all your casters into barbarians, run weapons shipment, get the bauble, and TR to your original build.

Given my luck, i would consider TR ing the melee to a career... :-)

Yep. The drop chance on that thing is so low. Been running that quest propably about 40 times on hard and elite and no bauble. Would not even risk running it with a character that would not benefit from it as it would be such a slap to the face really. ;)

My paladin has a bauble and I love it. I use it often to help save other casters SP when handing out buffs or to give resists to someone who has died.

Yes, it is definitely useful on a paladin, just like a torc and conc op items are.

More spellpoints->more self heals. (Paladins can easily selfheal with the cure spells on anything except boss fights, and there you have lay on hands...)

Lol - this is why I refused to run ADQ and Weapons Shipment on my melees until I got the Torc and Bauble on my clerics. And just to prove the point - my Dwarf Ranger pulled TWO Torcs in 12 runs of ADQ...

A nice thought.

However, the Bauble was designed before the DDO Store existed.

Just twist in the divine angel ability to get echos of power....always have 30 mana that way. :D Actually, I just did that on my paladin. Only issue I have is that I never get that far down in my mana. I have around 750 spell points....which I am finding out is waaaaay more than enough in 95% of the content out there. While I do have great healing amp and can use a cure mod to hit for 120 hp, I just use heals most of the time.....and how that they also introduced Endless Lay on Hands, it is even a more moot point. 8 LoH that hit for 900 points each and then regen at a rate to where I have never run out of them. Where was I going? Oh yeah! Baubles are not necessary on a paladin. :p

One of my guildies has a bauble and an eardweller...on his barb. We are still trying to farm a torc for him. (we're a static group hence he kept what he pulled that no one else needed) He links his bauble in case anyone has the temerity to insist on linking DR breakers

That is so funny, because that is actually how I got my bauble on my completionist. Only dropped on my barbarian life and everyone in party already had one so I took it.

Guess they think barbarians need a bauble.

Incorrect.

The bauble is part of The Devils of Shavarath, which was implemented in Mod 9.

The DDO Store was also implemented in Mod 9.

I watched some barb pull a bauble, amongst 5 blue bars. Some kind FvS wanted to see if they could solo elite weapons shipment and so threw up an LFM offering free chests at the end. And it dropped for him.

I have that toon listed and I keep an eye on it to ensure that he will someday TR into something that can actually use it, like he promised.

PS welcome back to the game bags.

The drop rate increased in Update 14 patch 2. My arti just got hers -it was her first try after the patch (I ran it on hard). I would like to know if others are seeing better results.

EDIT: I would also like to know if anyone has seen it anywhere other than the center chest. I have seen 8 drop since the change to Weapons shipment, and they have always been in the center chest.

It's stuff like that which makes me seriously think the devs add some code in there to increase the drop rate for characters with no sp at all, or some kind of inverse ratio:

droprate = x;
if (character_sp > 0) droprate = (1/character_sp) * some constant * droprate

Could never happen, right?

So is the bauble like the ring of regeneration?

You can ransack that chest for months on end, and never see it drop?

Incorrect.

Module 9, along with said bauble, was complete nearly a YEAR prior. Many people noticed this massive lule of updates while they decided the games future. They waited a long time because they wanted a big release and had to negotiate all the terms and stuff with atari/hasbro/wizards/etc.

It was on lammannia months before the store was ever added to the lama beta. So obviously said designers who tend to do the items and content months in advance before release had no real knowledge of the game going free to play, nor anything about the ddo store or what it might sell at that time.

Mine dropped on Normal post u14, though honestly I am not positive if that would make it the left chest.

@OP Another reason to "Hate" the bauble is the rest of my blue bars without it. Just having it on one toon makes me look to use it on all my other blue bars.

Regardless of what stage The Devils of Shavarath was at when the store was conceived (and the Turbine team should know the direction of a product when developing in the first case unless there were serious communication issues), the fact is that the adventure pack is in flux and subject to change until it hits live. Therefore, since the adventure pack was implemented at the same time as the DDO Store the only conclusion that can be made is that the Bauble was created in the same timeframe as the DDO Store: between Mod 8 and Mod 9.

Unless you worked for Turbine at the time of product development and have inside knowledge of how the company communicates direction.

The "center" chest is always present on any difficulty. The others appear to the right (hard and elite) and to the left (elite) of it.

EDIT: oh -if anyone is curious, I have seen the bauble drop on casual too -it can happen, but I almost never run it that way, so I can't judge the frequency in any way.

I've seen stuff like that so many times, there was a bit of guilt when I pulled my own Bauble. Solo run or not, it felt wrong on something with less than 500 SP.

Also, hi Maarl!
