Just started Baldurs Gate again, and wondered if CHA had any uses for a Mage?
Rolled some really good stats i think...
Str 16
Dex 18
Con 18
Int 18
Wiz 14
Cha 3

Basically that's it if Baldur's Gate is anything like 2nd Ed. PnP.
Great Stats for a Wiz btw {Oh but you won't be able to Specialize as an Enchanter {Cha is a PreReq}.

I'm not sure about BG I but BG II had a bunch of items that gave a straight 18 to a skill. Unlike DDO which might give a +1 - +8 this would just send you straight to 18, 22 or even +25 to a skill. I rememebr gimping most of my stats and grabbing the +18 CHA ring, buying the +18 ogre belt, and finding the +18 Dex Bracers. BG I surely has some gems like this.

Only for strength.
If you don't mind the party leader being an npc, then Cha means nothing in baldurs gate. Just like in 2.0. It was a running gag that our group's minmaxer would start with -9999 charisma if he could get +1 to strength. Regardless of class.

Yah this - NPC reaction to your party may be adversely affected, some dialogue options will not be available, some loot options may not be available - see DSimpson's full walkthrough on gamefaqs... search for CHA or charisma, since he included it in varying points of the walkthrough.

By the way, if your intention is to just keep rolling stats until you get a good set, there are BG character training programs out there that let you get all 18s if you want. If you want a challenge though, just take the first set you roll an try to make it work. I have beat the game with several different characters this way and it can be a lot of fun.

Ring of human influence sets CHA to 18, think that's BG II though.
Other than discounts in shops, there's no real benefit to it on a mage. Just have the party's bard do your shopping for you. :)

yup, it's BG2 and it's available right from the beginning (well, after 1 quest in the tent)

Is a long journey before i get there, and i have never played trough BG1 before. My plan this time was to play the same character all the way.
The rules of this game is weird after so many years with 3 ed. Can´t understand how we could get hooked.

Keep an eye out on the steps of the friendly arm inn is all I'll say.
"Hi Friend."
Never trusted anyone ever since who opens with that line.

18 con isn't needed for a wizard, they get max benefit at 16.
Cha is useful for a lot of interactions at the start, but you can also use Imoen or another high charisma character for that. NPCs react based on whomever is at the top of your party list. It's one of the reasons I like to grab Ajantis. He's got somewhat gimpy melee stats, but his paladin healing is nice and he has uber-Cha for dealing with the locals. Higher charisma means better rewards from finishing quests...often MUCH better rewards.
Quest X might give 50 gold and 200 XP to a character with 10 Cha. At 18 Cha you get 2 scrolls, 500 gold, and 2000 XP.
It rarely makes -that- marked a difference, but often enough that you want to get someone without a completely dumped cha at the top of your party.
Oh, and...get Minsc.

So how is the "new" Baldur's Gate?
I've only played the 2nd one, but I consider it one of my all time favorite games. So I'm certainly curious about checking the enhanced editions of the series.
