View Full Version : 12 barb for mod or 12 fighter for base.

Ok so i'm trying to think of the best way of making a 2 handed melee.

What i'm thinking is going for the overwhelming crit as when it's ship shape it should be nice, as well as going for that dread epic thing because it looks like that to stacks up the multiplier.

Going from both angles I can fit all the feats in no problem whether its the fighter or barb with the 12 levels. But i'm not sure which would be more beneficial. With the barb on tier 2 I get the extra x1 multiplier which is nice on those 19/20's. Or I could go for a more base dmg with kensei 2, stacking up weapon dmg and crit dmg before multipliers.

I plan on using clickies like displacement, haste, all those GS goodies, but even with rages I could always dismiss em and then redo my clickies as needed.

It will probably be a 32 point build as I'd like to just steamroll it to end (no xp stone for me)

So what do ya think? The barbs x1 multiplier or the kensei's action boosts and added dmg?

I figure the layout will be a 12/6/2 rogue split for SA and evasion when needed (can always switch back and forth in gear.) And I'll use the helf for cleric dili while leveling switching up when I can get umd to 39.

The stat layout will be a 16 18 14 split between str con and wis. (Thought of going 18 for str but really just the 1 mod where lets face it, if you had 1k hp theirs always room for more.)

Each side seems attractive. Any experience with either build from anyone?

I don't advise anyone to take 6 fighter for prestige. If you really need the feats, go for it, but otherwise, it's a waste of levels.

Yeah. Kensei Specified Weapon Mastery I requires 11APs for +1 TWF or +2 THF damage and some seeker bonus. Most of those AP spend is non-useful.

Frenzied Berserker I is a better low splash option.

Ya I ended up going with the 12 fighter main using the 6 barb for the vicious and enhancements. Turned out pretty nice on the planner except a couple errors I made. Maxed umd, bluff and a good chunk in intimidate.

I was thinking of 6 fighter to stack up stewart defender but I remembered it didn't work with the rage spell, and on further checking I found it didn't work with barb rage either. So that killed that idea. Ive already started er, and I'm gonna take em to 20 quick so I can test out the differences between it and the 14/6 split I did with a bard war chanter.

Course I'll also have to relook at the war build as it was made before all the epic stuff. I think I can tweak it for more dmg and feat requirements though.

Barb 6 / ftr 12 (FB I / Kensai II) is generally considered the "sweet spot" for barb / ftrs, as you get Rage & Frenzy from barb 6 while ftr 12 gets you 7 extra feats, STR +3 enhs, Haste Boost IV, and Power Surge. Whereas doing the reverse (ftr 6 / barb 12), you give up 3 feats, Power Surge, a couple ranks of Haste Boost, and the static bonuses from Kensai II for extra Rages, Supreme Cleave, and the +1 19-20 crit multiplier from FB II.
