My idea is very simple. Please read the entire post before commenting! Thanks!
Idea Basics: A level 20+ (or TR at any level) can go through a process of binding a weapon to our character spiritually by means of a blood ritual. This ritual binds a weapon to our character providing a combat based and optional bonus with a balancing side effect. This ritual is designed to sit independent of any specific weapons meaning you can perform the ritual with any type of weapon (1H 2H Shield or Bow), but is specifically intended as a bonus to end game ‘long term use’ weaponry.
Ritual Description: This weapon is bound to you through a sacrifice of blood and has become an extension of your spiritual and physical being. It has become self aware and has a great affinity and love for its master.
Primary Benefit: Blood bound weapons provide a +2 to hit and a +2 to damage (Example – Read On). Actual Benefit could potentially be selected by the character by means of including a ritual stone with similar functionality (in theory\design) to the dragontouched armor runes. (Provides versatility and Turbine control over available Benefits).
Secondary Benefit: When a Blood Bound weapon is equipped and a scroll or wand is used, the bound weapon will automatically be returned to a characters hands after the scroll/wand charge is consumed. (optional benefit which can be toggled on/off).
Limitations: A character may only be blood bound to up to 1 (2 handed) or 2 (1 handed) weapons at a time (bows and shields included). Characters can use any other weaponry by manually swapping weapons or by using their weapon sets shortcut Icon as they do now. Any weapons not bound obviously will not provide the blood bound bonus.
(Each bonded 1 handed weapon would provide a +1 bonus to hit and to damage (example) per weapon to keep the bonus equal for TWF/Sword-Board and 2 handed users).
Properly Unbinding a Weapon: A blood bound weapon can be unbound through a counteractive ritual however the character is not allowed to rebind to a new weapon for a period of 24 hours regardless of the reasons to voluntarily unbind the item.
Wrath of the Forsaken Bond (Debuff): Sale, trading, destruction or banking of a blood bound weapon (without properly unbinding) will result in the characters constant and persistent distraction from normal tasks as he\she desperately searches for the item. A feeling of loss overwhelms the character and he/she suffers a (-5) penalty to all skill and save checks for a period of 24 (game time) hours following the loss of the item at which point the debuff ceases. If the character reequips the item before the debuff ceases, the debuff is removed and reset however if the item is not reequipped and the debuff expires after 24 hours, a new weapon may not be bound for a period of 168 hours (7 calendar days) while the character mourns its loss.
Note: This debuff would not occur if the items reside with the character, IE: in your pack or equipped or if the weapons were properly unbound prior to their sale/destruction/banking.
Availability: Ingredients required for the blood binding and unbinding ritual can be obtained through (F2P) in-game content.
A spiritual cleansing token can also be purchased on the DDO Store which will reduce your 7 day timer to 24 hours. (Spiritual Cleansing Token is only needed if your Wrath of the Forsaken Bond Debuff expired and you need to reduce your time to bind a new item).
Thanks for your consideration and let me know what you think!
