I am planning on TR-ing my lvl 20 fighter into some sort of cleric or favored soul. Does anyone haveany tips or general insight on the build? I like the way he fights now, and would like to keep him fairly sturdy with the new build. I have a lower level cleric, and I like his fighting style as well, however I am unsure of how to really start my build for my TR. I have the DDO character generator, but it really doesn't give advice, just stats. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

go into custom character builds and look for the soul survivor (sp for first one cant remember whether it is sole or soul) it is an outdated, but still very useful build, it is a melee wf FvS, so if you dont have the WF race nm this reply, but otherwise look at this build, modify it a bit to modernise it (aka drop the WF threat gen increase, and get all the scroll/wand boost line, for dmg/healing so you can heal scroll well)

good luck

What kind of fighting style does your fighter have? TWF, shield, or THF?

We need some simple info.

What gear do you have available. Primarily, what Green Steel weapon and item.

By the way, if you don't have a Green Steel weapon/item, this is actually a good thing at the moment, because you can plan it FOR THE NEXT LIFE!

Personally, I'd go Min II Great Sword.

Hear me out.

Min II gives you KEEN. I know, I know, on a melee you will take improve crit. But, on a battle cleric/FvS, you won't have the feats. And, since it is Min II, it is ALL PURPOSE, you won't need to switch items.

I'd look into adding Holy, then special abilities, or Acid, and special abilities. Again, I know, not the best DPS... but again, an all purpose weapon here.

Finally, make a Con Op HP item. All in one awesome. Personally, I make a Con Op Sp item and a Min II/Vacuum/Triple Air or Triple earth HP item, but for you, that would require 20 Shroud runs, which would take months.

So that is my advice.

As far as build, I'd go 20 WF FvS, Soul Survivor Build, and 1 Fighter 19 Cleric. In the past, I'd suggest a deeper splash, but with epic levels, you get 2 more feats and lots of abilities, that just the 1 level of fighter gives you Martial weapons, tower shields, etc.

What kind of fighting style does your fighter have? TWF, shield, or THF?

Currently a TWF using dual Bastard Swords. In response for the question on greensteel, he has two, one a MinII, and the other is a second tier fire. I know it takes up a feat that could be useful elsewhere. I still would like to use them, possibly on third life, but I have the mats to make something else for his next life. He also has GS goggles with all immunities.

Do you want it to be a divine that can fight or a melee that can cast divine spells? If it's the latter then I'd consider a 13 cler,/6 fgt/1 something or a 14fvs/6 fgt. You'll have high enough level for healing aura and Heal, and the 6 fighter levels will earn you 4 feats, power attack, two weapon fighting, oversized weapon fighting and exotic weapon bastard sword.
I'd go with human, since no race benefits from bastard swords and you already have full immunity gs googles. I'd recommend making a con-op gs item with sp before you TR, +300 sp at level 11 and +6 wis on the same item is VERY useful.

If it's pure divine that can fight then... I'm sorry that you're not using any fvs faith weapons (great sword, scimitar, longsword, bow). :/

Edit-
Feats that are "mandatory" for a twf-bastardsword divine/fighter are: toughness, empower heal, quicken spell, power attack, two weapon fighting, oversized two weapon fighting, exotic weapon bastard sword, improved two weapon fighting, greater two weapon fighting. Being human with 6 fighter levels gets you 12 feats total, 8 of which are mandatory. If you go pure cleric or fvs human with these feats you might be ok though.

Why Favored Soul or Cleric? Do you WANT to be a healer? Not pigeon holing here, my point is simply that when you join a group that is what a group will assume when they see your icon...your a healer.

IF you want to be sturdy, have self healing ability, great saves AND use your Bastard Swords...then go paladin ;-)

Not a lot of room on a Battle Soul or Battle Cleric for Bastard Swords...just sayin...

Yes I do want to be a healer. I know the bastard swords will probably have to go away for a life, I'm good with that. I have toyed with other builds that do not involve them at all, in fact my other lvl 20 fighter uses greatswords and greataxes. I have other toons that excel with scimitars. I was merely answering to the post questioning my equipment. I have a mid-lvl cleric, he is sword and shield, and an excellent healer. I dont like playing pally's very much. I would like to know more about feats and enhancements that I should take for a cleric, one who has a little more dps. I want my character to be good all around, and i know there are checks and balances, thats what DDO is all about. I am trying to find the right balance without destroying my build.

soul survivor is not good anymore, much better to be horc, extra str, dmg, healing amp, emarlith chain, and healing word.

horc 20 fvs, 5dreadnaught

toughness
power atk
max
emp
IC: slashing
prof: g.sword
quicken

granted i have emarlith, esos, 3 piece abashi, claw set, GS sp gogs, and HP necky, should still perform well with less than perfect gear.

but you can play healer while dishing out some nice melee dps on top of dots for bosses. just use mass heals while swinging. you can also energy drain, symbol of death, and have 10 dr

great build, no pls required. though 36pt is best. max str, 10 or 12 cha youll need an item at all times, a point or two into int if you want umd and balance, rest into con.

i dont have personal experience with fvs (just recently unlocked it^^) ... but I played two battlecleric lives .... so here some advice:

TWF battlecleric is nearly impossible because of the stat requirements! (You need high dex for TWF feats)
THF otoh works quite well ;)
You will be totally feat starved ... now that we get two epic feats, this problem will be lessened a bit ... but still: you definitely don't want to waste a feat on exotic weapon proficiency!
For races there are IMO only three choices: Half-Orc (DPS), Dwarf (~DPS, ~HP), Human (+1 feat)
Also take into consideration that while playing a battlecleric solo or in quests (especially while leveling) is incredibly fun and probably one of my favorite lives so far, when raiding or doing super difficult endgame stuff, you will have to stick to healing 90% of the time ... and no matter how exactly you realize your battlecleric, you will ALWAYS be a worse healer than a casting focused cleric (mainly due to lower sp and less turns)

Okay so here how I made my 2nd battlecleric (where I already had some experience from my first try ;)):
First decide on which stats you need:
.) Strength: all the way! Other melee classes get special damage bonuses, you don't! To be competible you need to max out this one.
.) Constitution: Clerics have less hp than fighters or barbs => this should be your 2nd focus!
.) Charisma: On my 2nd battlecleric I had the huge advantage of having 2 cleric past lives ... thus i didn't need high charisma to get a reasonable number of turns ... since this is your first cleric life, you can't neglect charisma completely.
.) Wisdom: You need 19 wisdom to cast level 9 spells ... assuming basic TR gear (+2 wisdom tome, +1 exceptional wisdom, +2 insight wisdom, +6 enhancement => +11 wisdom) you should be fine with 8 starting wisdom ... though additional wisdom gives more sp ... so this is a good spot to spend left over points
.) Dexterity: Increases your reflex save ... so always helpful ... but with the amount of needed stats ... maybe spend the leftover points here instead of wisdom ... but thats it
.) Intelligence: dump stat

I went Half-Orc for the DPS ... starting stats for 34 point build:
I would start with either:
STR 18 OR 20
DEX 10 OR 8
CON 16 OR 16
INT 10 OR 6
WIS 10 OR 10
CHA 12 OR 12

the difference is: first option has more skill points from level 7 on (assuming +2 int tome) and better reflex save, variant 2 has max dps at the cost of surviveability

Skills: Balance and Concentration ... both are very important! ... thus I would prefer the first variant if you have a +2 int tome ;)

Feats:
Must haves for healing:
Empower Heal
Quicken (not as a perma on ... but there are situations where you definitely want it)

Must haves for surviveability:
Toughness

Must haves for melee:
Extend
Power Attack
THF
ITHF
IC
Proficiency for some good melee weapon

Nice to have for healing:
Maximize
~Empower
~Mental Toughness

Nice to have for melee:
GTHF
~Cleave

As you can see we got now 9 must-have feats + 2~5 optional feats we want .... a Half-Orc Cleric gets 7+2 (epic) feats ... which basically means that nowadays you don't even need to splash some other class to get all those feats .... yay MotU^^ ... though getting some of those must-haves at 21 is kinda meh ... so if you want to include more optional feats, you can always splash monk or fighter levels. That also gives you earlier melee prowess^^ at the cost of deleayed spell progression ... personally I think I would splash only 1 fighter level now ... at least atm there are no epic feats a battlecleric might be interested in.

so build suggestion:
