View Full Version : Arrow/Bolt - what is the best way to organise them?

I play an arti - haven't had time to level it much so it's sitting at 11 ready to go with a few runearms stored and a ranger PL. Also a helves angel build in a half-assed oh-ok-i'll-bring-dps-since-you-already-have-divines just conjure arrows way. But range is kind of fun (when it works) and I would like to understand and use this better than I have been.

I've been carefully collecting slayer arrows and bolts and I can happily craft this and that on my crafter. But how do you organise and effectively use these? There are the different quivers types with different stack depths and number of stacks but you can't hotbar a quiver. And if I leave them just in an inventory slot they take up space- I can't complain about stacking sizes of slayer arrows cos I don't have that many - but for metal types etc.

Leaving aside what we would *like* to have in this game but don't, do you have any good tips for me a range newbie on the most efficient way to organise and use arrows and bolts? If you use quivers what do you use them for?

You'll hopefully get more helpful answers than this.

On my ranged lives I used just one quiver (1500 x 3) with:
-1500 x Sturdy Deneith Bolt +3 (more expensive than plain, but worth it for when using +1 repeaters of weird mods. Conjure bolts can bite me... though with the +6 now available I might re-evaluate this.)
-1500 x Silver Bolt (maybe now Cold Iron would be smarter if you're hanging out in the FR)
-Constantly fluctuating supply of Holy Bolts + 5

Swapping from Silver to Sturdy took a click and I felt was worth it for Shroud and ToD boss fights.

If I was really worried about a fight, I figured I could swap to the Holy Bolts and cast an appropriate DR if necessary. e.g. Cold Iron for DQ2.

Slaying and Greater Bane bolts were always beyond me for the reasons you describe, but I will watch this thread with interest myself in case someone has good tricks.

For holding lots of arrow types i like the Quivering Quiver, carrying two of those in my arties bag, more of a spacesaver for me though. I'm much too lazy to hunt down and use specific bolt types or dig them out of bags. The Quivering Quiver is not unique, so grab a few if you intend to keep lots of bolts on hand.

Interesting comments guys. Thanks for that. I'll have to try and get one of those quivers.

Ok... I'm just going to go and nag all the people who I know play artis and bow user thingies and ask them the following questions:

1) what types of arrows/bolts do you typically have on you and how many?
2) do you ever craft stuff and if so what?
3) do you ever bother with slayers? if so where?
4) do you use quivers and if so what for.
5) what do you hotbar and where do you hotbar it?
6) do you have any combat tips? how often do you need to swap mid combat? do you have tips and tricks for how best to do this if say the type of thing you want is in the quiver that you have to dig out.
7) tips for using conjured stuff? or do you only do this when you run out?
8) how much of a path to house D is this? am i going to be going there *all the time*?

I'll report back when I have so pestered people....

Edit:
adding in a bit...

100 +5 Arcane Arrows, 3,000 Deneith Adamantine Arrows, 3,000 Deneith Cold Iron Arrows, 3,000 Deneith Silver Arrows, 1,500 Arrows
+5 Holy Burst Greater Bane Bows with Guild Slots, +4 Attack Trinkets
No
Quiver of Alacrity for storing 4,500 of my Metal Arrows and Mini-Haste, Very Large Thin Quiver for 4, 500 of my Metal Arrows, 1,500 Arrows, Quivering Quiver for when I'm bored.
My quivers are always on my hotbars, located with my other bags. For fights where Metal Arrows are required I hotbar both my Returning Arrows (they poof from the hotbar when I've logged out, so it's a temporary thing), next to the Metal Arrows I'm using to allow for quick switching.
Unless your an Artificer, Melee. Don't bother with Archer's Focus if you can be hitting 2 or more mobs with Improved Precise Shot, and don't use Archer's Focus if you're not breaking DR as it will increase a monsters DR, rather than giving you a 5% damage increase.
100 +5 Arcane Arrows are 100% Returning.
No. You shouldn't use more than 300 Metal Arrows per Raid, Elite Tower of Despair, etc.
