Hi,

I finished "the portal opens" (underdark) chain for the 3rd time today on one toon.
The reward or the chain only listed 2 named items : icerazor and blade of the priestess ( no seals ... )

Is this WAI ?

As a side not : "/quest completions" does list all 3 new chain arcs. So I thought the new reward mechanic implemented a while back would be working for the new ones too.

Every chain completion has a chance for a named item. The operating word is chance.

Shh- the adults are talking.

To the OP: From my understanding... No it's not WAI.

I think the rings and the drow weapons don't even appear in the chain end reward list, have not seen anyone looting them from it. (the 6 times i finished it only got the blade of the high priestess :P)

If i remember correctly from the beta forums, the third completion chain reward list has a 50% chance for each named item.

Just completed the City of Portals chain for the third time and got ZERO named items! Is this broken or what?

Seen how it never worked in the first place, not even in any of the betas, it's not broken.

Can't break something that never worked in the 1st place...

First of with Update 13 (see Release Notes (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Release_Notes_Update_13_Official)) it is stated that "...Adventurers will now see all available named items as an option in their quest arc end reward lists when completing a quest arc for the third time", so not only a chance of one.

On the other hand I guess it is wrong to believe that this mechanic is true for all the new quest arcs, but only active for the ones listed in the release notes in the Quests, Challenges, and Adventure Areas section. This are namely:
The Catacombs
The Ruins of Threnal
Sorrowdusk Isle
Delera’s Tomb
Tangleroot Gorge
Shan-to-Kor
The Phiarlan Carnival
The Sharn Syndicate
The Reign of Madness
Harbinger of Madness
Attack on Stormreach
The Waterworks
The Path of Inspiration
The Dreaming Dark
Reaver’s Reach
The Red Fens

I would indeed love to see this working as well for the new story arcs, but I fear we won't get them anywhere soon added to that list...

Available is operative word. Seals not appearing in the 3 time end reward list is WAI. Zero named items on the other hand is not wai.

Available is operative word. Seals not appearing in the 3 time end reward list is WAI. Zero named items on the other hand is not wai.

Once again from the release notes "...Many adventures will now offer special end reward lists when players complete their quest arcs for the third time (and every three times thereafter!) Named items that can appear on a quest arc’s end reward list will have a 100% chance of appearing on every third completion of the story arc. Special third completion rewards are available for:..."

In other words it is a specific list of quest arcs that provide a 3rd completion reward, not automatically all of them. So no matter if available is an operative word, the mechanic most likely wont work for the new story arc from the Underdark, or in this regard for the Quest Arc the portal opens in the OP.

I would like to hear a clarification of a Dev on that matter, but as I am not aware of anything in the later release notes that would indicate that this mechanic will also apply for future story arcs, I still believe it is WAI that you may not see a named item on the 3rd completion of this particular chain.

Here is the release notes from U14, which should be more helpful:

In the Forgotten Realms, every third completion of a quest chain will provide a reward list with a 50% chance for each item that could have normally appeared in that list to appear. Completions which are not the third or a subsequent multiple of three have a 25% chance for those items to appear.

Just finished my 3rd set of the 3rd FR chain last night (yup, late to the MotU par-tay). Got the Planar focus trinket-thing (WIS +8) as an end reward for the chain.

Have only 2 completions so far on the other 2 chains but seems to be WAI so far.
