View Full Version : Okay... what is the deal with heavy fortification?

So earlier today, I was fighting in the arena for a bit (PVP), and at first, I paid it no mind, but someone was able to land a critical hit on me in the arena inspite of my not being hit with a fort-reducing effect and having (according to my character sheet) 135% fort (160 something with Sentinel active. At the least, I should have 125% - 100 from minos, and 25% from being a toaster).

I was hit with 7 cold damage on top of the regular 3 cold damage that one person hit me with, and just now I managed to land a critical hit for about 175 points of base damage on someone whom I know has heavy fortification. With that said, is Fortification bugged, or has it been hit with a stealth nerf that snuck in with the Challenge EXP nerf (BTW, I only got 28k exp with a voice of master active today despite this being a first-time 5-star run of Ring of Fire)?

If it is a nerf, what does having fortification mean now?

Edit - Turns out the other guy had a song effect that nerfed his fort, but that doesn't quite explain why/how crit-based effects such as icy burst are managing to proc on a target that is/was technically immune to crits. :/

There are a variety of abilities that reduce fortification. There are also items and abilities that boost fortification above 100% to offset this.

There is also a bug where Fortification gets "lost" until you relog. Not sure the cause on that. Someone probably knows.

If you switch items, you will probably lose heavy fort.

It's one of those huge bugs that turbine is ignoring in favor of adding cubes to the store and nerfing the challenge exp.

Only thing on cubes I see in the store are treats for em. From what I've been told, the cubes are referral rewards for referring friends to DDO from Facebook.

On-crit effects happen whether or not the crit lands.

Ie, old disrupters, flaming burst extra damage, etc-doesn't actually need to be a crit, just a 20 or a 19 or whatever roll would be needed.

Precision bypass 25% fortification
GMoF can bypass up to 10% fortification (twistable but expensive)
Shadowdancer can bypasser 15% fortification (twistable and not so expensive)

And there are probably other things.

The strange thing is, today's the first time I've ever noticed it. I've almost never been hit with a critcal burst effect with heavy fort active.

I don't pvp much but that is how critical effects have always worked against monsters with 100% fort..
