Frequently Asked Questions
I’m a Free Player. Can I refer people to DDO?
Yes! All DDO players with active accounts are eligible to refer friends to start playing the game via the DDO Referral Program.
How many friends can I invite?
As many as you would like! There is no hard-limit to the program at this time.
I have more than one DDO Account. Can I choose which one I want to use?
Yes, you can! However, you may only use a single DDO account at a time. If you get 1 friend referred on your first account, and two on the second, it does not count as 3 referrals for the pet. The referral quota is per-account.
I can't remember my DDO Username. How do I retrieve it?
If you've forgotten your Username, you can be sent an email listing all of the Turbine account Usernames that are associated with the email address you provide.
To do so:
1. Visit https://myaccount.turbine.com and click on ‘Forgotten your Username?’
2. Enter the email address that you believe should be on file with your Username
3. The system will now email that address a list of all Usernames it finds with that email address on file
Some items to note:
• If your Username has an older email address on file that you no longer have access to, you will need to submit a ticket to our Account Management Team.
• When using the forms above, fill in as much information as you can recall about the account and be sure to provide a currently valid email address for them to be able to send a reply. In the issue “description” field, include the older email address (or addresses) you believe might be on file with the account.
• After you send this request, be sure to check your “Spam” or “Bulk/Junk” mail folders. They sometimes flag these auto-generated emails as such and if they do, you may want to add noreply@turbine.com to their “Safe Senders” list and also to your address book/contacts list to prevent further such emails being flagged as spam or junk.
• You will only be sent the list via email; it will not display on the web page. Please be very sure that you are entering the correct email address and that it is spelled/formatted correctly.
My friends are already playing DDO. Can I get credit for them?
While we appreciate you referring your friends to play, only new accounts created through the DDO Referral program are eligible.
I heard about this program and talked a friend into playing DDO, but they didn’t use my referral link. Can I still get credit for them?
Sorry, but only accounts that have been created through the DDO Referral program are eligible. If your friend bypasses the referral link, they’ve also bypassed the program!
When my successfully referred friend sets up their account, how do I get my creature companion?
After all three of your friends have made accounts and are showing as confirmed referrals in your referral page, the next time you log in your character will receive a creature companion certificate automatically in their inventory. This certificate is only bestowed to the first character to log in after you meet your referral quota, so if you don’t see it on the character you expect, be sure to check your other characters!
You’ll receive 1certificate for each server, per account. After you activate your certificate, your Creature Companion is able to be accessed by all your characters on that server.
When my successfully referred friend buys Turbine Points, where are my bonus points going?
Bonus points you receive will accrue in your DDO Referral Program profile. You can cash them out into your DDO Store wallet at any time to use them in-game.
Can I give the creature companion to someone else?
No, the creature companion is non-transferrable.
My friend just bought some points. Where’s my bonus?
Bonus points are usually credited once per day for the previous day’s activity. If your friend buys points today you will generally see your bonus come through the following day, though it can sometimes take an additional day for credits to post. Remember: your friend needs to be showing as a confirmed referral! Make sure your friend is showing up in your referral profile so you know you’re getting credit for them!
I just cashed out some points and they aren’t in my in-game Store wallet yet. What gives?
Point transfer from your DDO Referral Program profile to the DDO Store is quick, but not instantaneous. We note on your profile page when a transaction is pending. Your points will be available once the transaction is complete. This usually happens in just a few minutes, but can take as long as an hour or more depending on how busy the system is when you cash out.
I’m seeing my friends’ real names in the transaction history. Is this right?
By default, when a friend signs up their name will appear in your DDO Referral profile. In general, we expect you to know the names of your friends already, and seeing that information will allow you to connect with them after they sign up. Of course, any player who is referred can also choose not to share their name with you during the signup process, and may show up as anonymous, or under an account name.
I’m making a lot of points from this thing. I don’t want my friends to be jealous. Can they see my referral stats?
No. Your referral stats are not visible to any other players. In the future we may provide an opt-in ability to share certain information, but we have no plans to make it possible for other players to ever see your Referral profile data.
My friend signed-up and then went straight to VIP. Do I get a bonus?
There’s no bonus at this time for players who become VIPs. You will still get 10% of any points they buy in the store, but there’s no special bonus for VIP payments or points.
If my friend refers a friend do I get points for that person’s purchases too?
No, the friend of your friend isn’t really your friend – at least not in an official "Would you like to be a bridesmaid or groomsmen at my wedding?" sense.
I see my friends in my referral page, but I’m logged in and no item showed up in my inventory. Where is my certificate?
The certificate is bestowed upon next login, so be sure to log out and back in if you happened to be logged in when that last referral came through. Also be sure to check your other characters (that bank mule you logged in for a split second to shuffle your inventory still counts as a character even if you don’t think of it as one).
My friend claims they signed up, but I don’t see them in my referral profile. Am I getting credit for them?
Only friends who show up in your referral profile are counted towards your referral rewards! The most common reasons this happens are:
- Your friend may not have trusted the link and didn’t click it before visiting the sign-up page. That means they bypassed the referral system by accident!
- Your friend may have opened the page initially, but then closed it and navigated away before they finished signing up, dropping out of the referral system.
- Your friend may have cleared their browser cookies in the middle of trying to sign up, dropping out of the referral system.
- Your friend may be too polite to tell you that they didn’t sign up. It happens, some friends are shy!
Here are some tips you can use to avoid failed referrals:
- You may want to give your friend a heads-up that you’re going to refer them soon so they’re not surprised when they see your referral.
- Remind your friend that they need to click your referral link so you get credit for them!
- Advise your friend to wait until you confirm that you see them in your referral profile as a successful referral – once that happens, then you both know that you’re getting credit for them!
- Try try again! If one friend just won’t become a referral, then try some more friends! There’s no limit to how many friends you can refer if your first three picks don’t work out.

Yeah, no - You're asking me to put my reputation on the line for a pet - and your game is totally broken right now.
Good luck though. Perhaps you should work on some fixes?

Can you please put this in the store at least. People who wanted to refer their friends either already did so, or would do so for the point benefits. The rest of the pet collectors will just create lots of free accounts.
I worry about a company that seems keen on faking a large influx of players. Maybe theres a shareholder meeting soon?
I think the most important question is: Does the White Banded Top Hat work on it?
Bonus points for "Eating" the top hat.

As things in the game are right now, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
So long as you don't want your gear, items, feats, experience, ressurections, bug reporting, destinies, attacks, ship buffs, or levels to work, it's AWESOME!
(EDIT: Oh, and you don't mind things that are working fine TODAY may or may not work tomorrow for unknown reasons, and you are ok with things that actually help players being regularly nerfed with little to no explanation .)

I referred three friends and then stood in front of the computer while both of them signed up for DDO. They clicked on the link in theiremail (which was in their spam folder) and signed up for a DDO account. One of them even signed in to the DDO program immediately afterwards and I watched him go through the first Korthos quest (the protection from death came in handy when he got confused in the swim for the key).
I still show up as having 0 referrals out of 3.
Any suggestions?

I can't think of a worse time for Turbine to be launching this promotion. With the level of dissatisfaction, the number of quest closures, bugged new features, and broken old features, well, this seems like a blatant cash grab. Worse, you're asking your customers to recommend a product they know is broken.
Fix the bugs. Make us proud, then maybe we'll help you spread the word.

It is BTC but they are just like every other pet. Once used ,it is unlocked for every character on that server. (I haven't checked to see if you get one for every server or just on the first server you log into.)

Well let's see, I've referred well over 15 people to Khyber since 2006. But, no worries there I'm not gonna ask this program be retroactive, that is not fair.
What I will comment on is this:
1. The cube was probably the only pet I would be toting around with me. I would probably even buy it in the store (have yet to do that, only put up plat for a bronze golem once so far)
2. If I actually had anyone to refer right now (over 7 years I think only one left is my son, and he's not old enough for this game), I probably would do a double think about asking them to hop in. Reasons? whacked out lag, broken stuff all over, changes out of the blue seem the norm now (changes for no justified reason), big changes upcoming U15 again (this is particularly painful to new players trying to get their head around things), and finally the number one reason: with all of the above going on (bugs, etc) you guys think its great to make a new pet and go for quick account number boost?
3. I really am tempted to just create a couple of hushmail accounts, send out the invites then go authenticate the accounts through TOR and get my cube (and I guess get your bonus from hitting that account target?) But.....nah I still have some principals left ;)

Let me think here:
1- Why would I refer a broke product?
2- Why would I ask people to trust a fraudulent company?
3- Why would I subject people I know to being accused of being other people because they have similar complaints to other people?
4- Why would I tell people to create characters that can be wiped at any time, only to have said wipe be denied repeatedly?
5- Why would I damage my friendships to promote your broken product?
You want referrals? Fix the broken aspects of the game, treat your players with RESPECT instead of suspicion and disdain, be POLITE when answering questions in the forums and QUIT banning accounts from the forums for DARING to question the "Almighty Devs". Maybe, if ALL of those terms are met, then you won't have to bribe us with USELESS cosmetic wastes of space to bump your numbers! Then, that may just be a tiny tad too much COMMON SENSE for you folks to be expected to have!

I'd quite like to know why two of my three friends are getting the following error message:
"We regret that we are unable to complete your registration at this time.
Code: BBCx0254"
Quite vexing. They've been trying for two days now. However, an entirely apt introduction to how things often 'work' in DDO.
I guess I won't be getting a cube, and they wont be playing DDO.

Please have them submit a ticket to DDO Community/Forum Support. If they can take a screenshot of their error page, that would be helpful as well. I'm not sure what might be causing your issue, but one of our support staff can assist your friends. This can be done by visiting support.turbine.com, then clicking on "Support Center" and "Submit a Ticket".

You all probably should realize that half of filling out the ticket is probably also so they can FIX it, rather than listen to more naysaying, whining, and complaining on the forums that makes 90% of what's here. Yes, it's stupid and it would deter new players. It will KEEP doing so until people take a moment to report it so they can fix it. "should" it work anyways? Yeah sure, but so should all software, but it never does, it's the nature of the beast.
The Epic Destinies are an embarrassing mess of wrong tool-tips, bugged abilities, and things that just don't work, but all we can do as players is report them or quit the game and stop supporting it. So have your friend submit a ticket, register without the referral and deal with it, or don't play.

They may still play, but probably won't go through the effort to fix the referral. Since the program began I have 3 referrals, none of which worked correctly and I personally sat beside two of them when they signed up.

Sorry Jerry, they're not interested. They were willing to sign up and have a go at DDO, and maybe get themselves a new MMO, but they're not interested in raising bug reports just to get online, they've only really agreed to do it as a favour to me to get me my pet and to finally get me to stop nagging them to play after two years. But pretty much as soon as they ran into difficulties they just said 'never had this problem signing up for an MMO before' and gave up after a few tries (I pointed out this wasn't true and gave them some examples of when they've had errors and things signing up but they pointed out in return that all those issues were with brand new MMOs, not ones that have been around for years, and they've never had this issue with a recruit a friend).
I could raise the tickets for them I guess, but I'm not that desperate for a pet cube. I'd quite like my friends to come and play, but if they aren't going to put up with this minor a bug, they aren't going to put up with the regular breaking of existing stuff and rebreaking of supposedly fixed stuff either. I already had three friends quit DDO in the past because of those issues, no point making these run through the same process when I can already see how the wind is blowing. I'm guess I'm just a lot more sanguine about raising bugs and things than my friends are.

It works fine for me I get a page with space to enter up to 5 email addresses and then click the "refer your friends!" button.

Let's say I show up as a new customer (purely hypothetically).
When do I find out that there's a rewards program? So far as I can tell, the answer is "when I browse the forums long enough that "signup rewards program FAQ" happens to be the topmost thread in a forum I hadn't actually been looking at because I didn't realize it had longer-term posts rather than short-term things like contests that are probably long-expired.
The signup page doesn't mention the rewards program. Account management doesn't. Heck, the page from the "Ready to jump into the action? Play free now!" button still has the Pando Media Accelerator downloader, complete with separate high-res and low-res versions.
If there had been anything in any of the things I saw in the process of creating an account, asking around on the forums about VIP status and the xpack, etcetera, etcetera, that even mentioned the existance of such a program, I would likely have used it. The only program I see referred to anywhere in there is the beta access rewards program.
So, basically: Imagine that I don't happen to start on ddo.com/rewards. And that I haven't happened to read this thread. And no one's specifically told me "BTW, DDO has a referral program".
How am I going to encounter it? What series of steps that an ordinary user might take would lead that user to ever see the phrase "signup rewards program" or end up on a page that links to it?
(Yes, I'm a little fussy; if I had had any inkling that such a program existed, I would have two referred accounts already, but since there was nothing to tell me that...)

Ok im a noob i cant find my referral profile but i already got 3 friends and got a gelantinous cube and it went on a char i didnt want it on maybe u should have an accept button so the char u want it on can recieve it ..
i dont understand how to do this .. u need to start from square 1 cause im not seeing it. I find the page with the big cube and form that says fill out emails and a status bar showing how many friends i got referred and its at 3 so the bar is at complete .. i see no names and i see no points ..
so where is the page referral program page at that shows all this?
and how do i get it to link to my home page cause i dont know how this works . If u skip steps i wont understand cause i dont program ur game so i dont know how to do it.

just fyi when im logged in the game where i try to look this up. It doesnt give me an option to type in ddo.com/referral i got to click on search then gives me a box and i type referral and i go to this post then go to this link attached.
I got a Home page when i click "my ddo" from In game ,is there supposed to be some way to link to the referral page off that? .. i dont have a clue where it is but most of the time when i click ur link to show my referrals it throws me out to net assistant and says Is this what ur lookin for ? and i click my back button ..
its pretty broken or something. Also it doesnt show me any names of the people that are my referrals or where would i see my bonus points for the referrals .. no clue on that cause i cant figure it out.
Maybe u should write up a how to get to referrals.com for dummies cause its not showing me anything
I mean i got my yellow gelantinous cube already but im just letting u know from someone thats having a difficult time with ur site.
U need some sort of link from peoples home pages and fix the referral page to show the friends that u referred and show these points im supposed to be getting . Just tryin to give a solution to this problem.

what else is there to know? You referred 3 friends, your bar shows complete, you got your cube. That's the whole thing, done.

Anytime one of your referred friends buys Turbine Points, you will get 10% of that purchase applied to your account. Go to the store and look at your account history, and it will show you all your incoming Turbine Points. If your friends don't buy anything, you don't get anything. You can see which friends accepted by asking them.
