keep losing chat in game with no lag

i have been playing now for a few days on a new comp and keep losing the chat windows. I will be in party and be able to hear voice and read/type in the chat then out of no where i am not able to type or even hear voice if anyone has had this prob or knows what it might be i would be thankful for the help thx

I can't say exactly what's causing you to lose chat, but I can offer some insight as to why you seem to be losing chat when the game still works fine otherwise. The chat interface (voice and text-chat) is actually handled through a different server connection than the game itself. Basically what you're seeing is a (hopefully temporary) loss of connection to the chat server, while the game server remains connected. I've experienced the odd issue with this myself in the past (but not in the past year or so, I'd say). In my experience generally if the chat server doesn't "come back" within about 10 seconds or so the game server ends up dropping connection too, which leads me to believe this is something of a latency (or lag) issue. It may pertain to something on your end of the connection (i.e. you or someone else in your house using a lot of bandwidth for downloads, streaming video, etc.) but may just as well be an issue with your ISP, their backbone provider, Turbine's ISP, or Turbine's servers' connection to the internet. I can say, at least in my case, the issues I experienced appear to have been caused by my ISP's local wiring, as ultimately moving to a different service location (but still with the same ISP) made my issues go away.
