So I I'm going to switch my character around and tr as a tempest. I'm going to have to use at least 1 lesser reincarnation wood to do it I'm at level 15 Ranger now. I need a general opinion from Tempests out there who have played the expansion. Should I have +1 to-hit? Or should I have +1 to damage? I kinda want to know because I'm about to level to 16 and I need to choose Fighter or Monk.

My reincarnated tempest may not be full ranger, but will only splash full BAB classes.

Normally everyone's answer would be +1 damage. But now with the new AC of monsters, the +1 to-hit seems far more valuable than it use to. Especially when using power attack. But I'm not sure. That's why I'm asking.

P.S. I'll probably post the question elsewhere, but does anyone know is it is possible to use a single +5 Lesser wood to change the lead class of my character from Ranger to Fighter or Monk when I hit 20?

So, you are currently level 15 and pure ranger, and you want to get a fighter or monk past life? If that is correct, a single +5 LR will get you to 5fighter/10ranger, then you take the last 5 levels as fighter putting you at 10fighter/10ranger, which will give you the fighter past life as fighter and ranger were released at the same time and fighter is first alphabetically. If you wanted the monk life instead, you would need 2 LR's since monk came out after ranger, a 10monk/10ranger split would give you a ranger past life. You can find more information about TRing at http://ddowiki.com/page/TR#True_Reincarnation and a list of past life priority when you TR at http://ddowiki.com/page/Past_Life_Feats. Hope all that helps out.

Thanks,

I think my +1 to-hit just got a big boost due to monetary reasons.

Damage by a mile.

One of the big flaws in the current system is that it rounds the (10.5 + attack) / (2 * AC) equation to the nearest 5%. Against a 50 AC monster, therefore, it's very likely that +1 to-hit will do literally nothing for you.

85% + 1 = 85%
86% + 1 = 85%
87% + 1 = 90% (does something)
88% + 1 = 90%
89% + 1 = 90%

4 out of 5 you get nothing... and this phenomenon gets worse the higher the target's AC is. So the situation is:
low AC => who cares, you're hitting 95% anyway
high AC => who cares, it'll probably do nothing for you anyway

So to hit an AC 50 Monster, I need +40 to hit half the time.

+20 BaB

+10 Str

+5 weapon

+2 competence item

+2 enhancement

Haven't done the minuses. . . But still only barely 50

Using standard subpar equipment I will likely be using, I believe I won't be coming face to face with too many AC 50 monsters running on normal and casual. I'll have problems with hitting. So increasing to-hit against an AC of 50 increases damage an average of 2% per point. 2.5% against AC 40. 3.3% against AC 30. Etc. . .

18.5 base weapon (+5 blank scimitar of blank)
+10 Str
+2 enhancement
+5 power attack

So about 36 maybe 40 because I'm sure I'm forgotting. Once again assume **** equipment. +1 damage is a 2.5 percent increase. . . . Against low AC creatures "on average," damage is the way to go. Against targets you're having difficulty with, it isn't.

So, a better way to ask this, "TWF, are you missing more than you hit?"

Ok, due to the advantages of precision, I think I'm going to take the damage even though monk s going o cost me more. Thanks for the help.
