View Full Version : Fighter Epic Axe Maiden (dwarf ftr 20 Kensai for U14)

This build's pretty simple by my usual standards: dwarven greataxe Kensai focused on DPS & tactics (Stunning Blow, Imp Sunder, Imp Trip) with lots of HPs and enough CON to take epic Toughness (base 18 + 3 tome) as well as Overwhelming Critical (hence Cleave & GC). Also includes the de-gimped Power Crit. Hoping she can be combined with Dwarven Defender when it finally comes out; probably need to revisit feats etc. at that point. Started out DEX 11 (+2 tome) with the intention of squeezing in D/M/SA/Whirlwind chain for fun, decided it was (still) too expensive to be worthwhile, but didn't change DEX (pretending AC is worthwhile again). Not sure Imp Trip is worth the 2-feat-&-3-stat-pt cost, but what the heck. Apart from that, anybody see any glaring oversights on my part?

Here's a different take based on the classic Archon (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=244172) combo: ftr 12 / barb 6 / rogue 2. Gives up a few feats, Kensai III & ftr capstone for UMD, 1D6+3 sneak atk, Evasion, and Frenzied Berserker I. [Could also take arty splash instead of rogue, particularly if you want to wear hvy armor instead of med.] Still works w/out INT tome too; just lose some of those extra pts in Balance. So the only tome that's actually required is +3 CON for Epic Toughness.

The only thing i dont like about build's that start with stat's less than 9 or 8 if you have a +3 tome is you will become helpless while drinking silver flame pots

now yes there are was too counter that with buff pots but i find that it is annoying and the best way is too not have too buff while in a jam and you need a heal just being able too slam a pot. but im old hehe i build all my fighter types now with a min of 9 or 8 so i can get too 11 with tomes thats just me tho i solo alot and even while in groups i rarely have too be healed

[Plus the hope for the second build is that she can keep herself going with Heal scrolls, although w/out Concentration that becomes a bit, umm, tricky to pull off mid-fight.]

Heal scrolls would be nice but it's been my experiance that with that low of a charisma you will be switching out items running around and trying too heal your self , i always felt it too be a pain. My idea of a good healing self suff toon is one who is in combat mode and heal mode with out having too change gear. but that is just me and in now way is the last word best of luck to you in all your monster killing and looting

Top build really similar to my original fighter build. Thats a killer build that cant go wrong. One thing tho, why power critical?

Finally got an upgrade in U14 so it functions like a +2 Seeker bonus (thank the Lord of Blades!): "Provides a +2 bonus to confirm critical hits and a +2 bonus to critical hit damage (before multipliers are applied)." For a DPS-focused Kensai, seems like it's a no-brainer now. :)

Unless of course it's broken like so much else in U14. :rolleyes:

Although it does occur to me that perhaps I should take advantage of that DEX 11 + 2 tome to add Precision; I presume there will be times when -25% fortification is more useful than the dmg bonus from Power Atk. But I'd like to see someone who's crunched the numbers before I change the build; DPS calcs are not my forte.
