Has anyone else run into this?

When the DDOClient.exe loads on Windows 8 Pre-Release, it halts at "examine game data" and will not proceed. I would call it a hang, but the mouse and system are still responsive so I don't want to mislead.

:(

Gaming on a pre-release OS is probably not the best choice . . .

Perhaps look into .net and what it is on windows 8, there may be some changes there that have "gimped" the launcher.

Yeah it worked fine on the previous beta, I think it is a .net 1.1 issue but not sure. Hope they get it fixed otherwise come October they will loose some players

Using TurbineInvoker, I am able to play DDO in Windows 8. .NET 1.1 install shows this warning:

The launcher itself will crash when first agreeing to the terms & conditions. Starting it again will allow it to succeed:

All in all, less than optimal. Moving away from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0 would fix this. Since the launcher already requires both .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0, it'd make sense to have it use only .NET 2.0 throughout.

I found the Fix on the LotRO Forums

Move everything {Files and Folders}

C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\Patches

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited

Fixed the Issue instantly
