Based on the info on the wiki, which lookes upated since the ridiculous MotU update, my TRd level 20 monk with the Monk past Life feat should have a base damage of 2d12. So why does it show my base damage is 1d6? Another bug, am I misunderstanding something or is this another nerf to melees? If it is a change, it wasn't in the release notes that I could find. Any ideas, folks?

The way Monk damage die is displayed is different in MotU. Base damage die is [1d6], then you get multipliers that increases your damage. You get +0.5 for each Unarmed Strike feat you gain at levels 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20. At level 20 with no gear/enhancements/etc., your damage dice is calculated as 3.5[1d6].
This was changed so other abilities (and new ones) would work correctly with handwraps and unarmed combat. Effects like "Reinforced Fists" and the Past Life: Disciple of the Fist feat increases it further: both give an additional 0.5, for a total of 4.5[1d6].
In the early beta, it was displayed in your inventory as [1d6*4.50000000], but that changed after a few updates. Now you only see the [1d6] and have to manually list all your gear/enhancements/etc. that increases the multiplier.

My base damage shows as 3.5[1d6] in the inventory screen. I am a level 20 TR monk with Past Life Disciple of the Fist, so based on what you said it should be 4.6[1d6] and it doesn't show that way.
Regardless, let's use 3.5[1d6] as our base. What does that mean? Does that mean my damage is 1d6*3.5 for a max base damage of 21? If so, then it got nerfed. My base damage BEFORE MotU was 2d12 for a max base of 24, not 21. And with my Garments of Equilibrium, my base was 2d14 for a max base of 28. I am trying to understand this before I get peeved at yet another nerf to melees.
Edit - I also can't find this change in the release notes, although I did find it on the wiki. Speaking of which, the wiki says my base should be 2d12, not 1d6, as a TR monk.

It doesn't show the figure before the square brackets currently on live. It's a display bug only, you are getting that extra damage. And it's not a nerf, the average damage of this new system is slightly higher. Compare 2d14 vs 4.5[1d6], it's 2-28 vs 5-27. This change is a very small buff.
And as regards the wiki, it's a volunteer project with a large amount of content. The expansion is only just out. Parts of it will be out of date for the next while as things like this get updated.

3.5[1d6] is essentially 3d6 + 1d3
originally you're suppose to be at 2d10 at monk 20 while with new setup it's 3.5[1d6]. meaning 2~20 vs 4~21, which is a buff
and pretty sure a dev said it before the die step won't go above 2d12 from old system
but now you can go pretty high up if you stack things up....
altho i'm not sure whether the monk active PL is suppose to give 1[w] or .5[w] like all other boosts =\
my guess is the garment and the PL feat bugged and is not bringing up the damage like it's suppose to?

So it's a display bug. So another bug. And while the low end base damage is higher by 3, the top end is lower by 1. I guess it is a fair trade. Of course, if they hadn't screwed other things up in the first place, they wouldn't have had to overhaul the combat system to compensate for their lack of ability to code this properly.
You are only as good as your product. While DDO is fun and a decent product - I won't quit playing, but still - it is DnD in name only now. So much for the D20 system and the very basics of what the game was to begin with. If I wanted to play WoW I would be playing THAT instead of DDO.

I'll second the vote on it being a display bug, because I don't see my die multiplier at all.
As far as the bit about losing the d20 system and playing WoW instead of DDO, take a good look at 4th Edition. If memory serves (because I don't have my books available), many of the Martial Powers use the +[W] system that DDO has implemented in MotU.

Yes, and WotC learned from the mistake they made with the kiddy game that is DnD 4.0 and are said to be coming out with 4.5 or 5e very soon to put things aright. At least that is how I heard it. 4.0 DnD sucks. I play a PnP game every other weekend and we use 3.5e rules because 4.0 is stupid and is like a game for children. How about us gamers that have been playing for 30+ years and have made the game what it is? Do you know many people that play 4.0 because I sure don't. Everyone I know says 4.0 is horrible and can't wait for WotC to put things back. Turbine ccould take a lesson from that - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if you screwed up the code, fix that, don't input another screw up to cover for it.
If DDO is going the way of 4.0 then they are making a mistake.

There are just as many people who play PnP games every other wkend who would disagree and say 4.0 was a vast improvement over 3.5e. That's called an opinion.
2d10 = 2-20 dmg
3.5[1d6] = 3-21 dmg
That is 1 point higher on the low end and high end. That's not a fair trade; that's an improvement. That's called a Fact.
If you aren't getting the increase for your monk PL and Gear then your damage will be lower then before, but it'll be fixed eventually and will end up being higher then before. That's called a Bug.
