I decided to give it a go recently, so yes.
Are you talking about dnd next? If tried it for a bit and decided that when I have time I will keep running 5th ed Hackmaster even though the dmg isnt really even started on it yet and I only have the pdf if the phb for so far. Its just a vastly superior game.

I hope the op was talking about next because I was responding about next. d'oh!
There's just not much to go on in those pdf's regarding game mechanics that pertain to character classes themselves, which is too bad. They were just there for players to see if the game had the DnD feel to it iirc.
some tidbits and article links can be found here http://www.enworld.org/forum/showwiki.php?title=Books:D+and+D+Next for anyone who was interested and hasn't looked too much yet.
I like the direction I'm seeing so far, with some exceptions, but there is still plenty of time for them to mess it up greatly.

Yeah, Next.
I've run it a few times ... and some with my family. Unlike when I was growing up, my freaking family WANTS to play (two daughters and wife). Crazy.
It has bits from all the editions. It "feels" more like Basic/Expert or 1st edition to me.

I reminds me a lot of the kits in second edition with the way it's being implemented. It caught my attention much better than 4th. :)
I would suggest the new verison of Hackmaster much cleaner and more enjoyable game but for sure a lowerpowered game. The dmg isnt done yet but will enter beta soon but the MM and the PHB are done and are the best such books ever, this is coming from over 35 years of rpg experience. Plus the comunity of the game is much better than the one for dnd.(not talking about the one here as its pretty good.)

Love Hackmaster (but I'll play any D&D derivative).
New packet is out for Next; not DL'd it yet but will.

Yeah, I get sucked into the D&D brand pretty fast. Likely a nostalgia thing from when I was younger.
I like what I'm seeing with 5th ed much, much more than 4th, although I've seen a bit of flip flop on at least one 4th ed feature I liked.
So far it seems like a mix of 2nd and 3rd edition with some sprinklings of 4th, but I think I'll have a more informed opinion after a couple of more play test packages. The low level stuff was fun and all but I'm curious what the higher levels will look like and the lower levels when they are more filled out beyond core basics.

They've already updated the 2nd play test package with 2 more classes so download it again if you don't have them. :)
Info for anyone not playing who might be interested in those classes: http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20120821
