View Full Version : Artificer crafting boost - how much does it save you?

I started crafting on a wizard and got my crafting into the low to mid 40s. I just got artificer though, and am looking at an Einstein build. Assuming I plan to get past 100 crafting, does the boost to crafting from artificer make it worth basically starting over from scratch?
To complicate the picture more, I plan to TR my crafter (although not into an artificer) which will wipe out the 'shards crafted' count and the corresponding xp decrease.
Does anyone have any math on how many essences you save from crafting as a level 20 arti, compared to how many it takes to get all 3 crafting levels into the 40s? Or a reference on approximately how many shards per level + efficient crafting guide?

If your aim is to hit 100/100/100 you WILL be better off starting afresh on a Human crafting-dragonmarked Artificer. I remember reading somewhere that the cut-off point was 60/60/60 or above. This seems about right to me as it takes much MUCH more essences to raise levels later on.
Even taking into account that you are TRing your crafter, and resetting shards, starting a specialist crafter it is still going to be the best option I think by a fair bit.

Defintely worth starting over, and you will want to be over 100 once the flexible crafting shards make it to live. Being able to ignore many slot restrictions is going to be very nice.
It gets much more essence expensive to craft as you get to the 90+ range. I avoided taking arty levels on mine until he was sittting at 138 and I needed to be able to craft +6 unbound shards for a guildy. My arty is still sitting at level 8, so I can use the rest of the arty levels on the most expensive crafting levels.

I would suggest, that if u plan to TR your wizard, TR into a sorc, and keep him your crafter. When u are rdy to TR again, u could go artificer, with a nice passive past life (+1 evo DC)

Thanks for the tip. I've got an artificer, but hadn't started crafting yet (other than from deconstruction) because I wanted to get an idea of the tradeoffs first.
I thought about TRing the wiz into an arti, but I'm not really keen on the idea for a number of reasons, most of which are more personal preferences rather than efficiency ;)

My current crafter is a Sorc, never thought to TR him into an Artificer. That would a good way to get the boost, as I've levelled him to around 100 in each. With the U15 changes, being a Sorc wont be as fun as it used to be.

Well, it's a 'free' boost and any future levelling would be cheaper. Especially since it'd reset all of your shard counts... Efficiency-wise, TRing my wiz would no doubt be the best of both worlds, I'm just not willing to break with my plans for her 'just' for the sake of efficiency ;)
