I've been trying to solve this issue for over a year.
On myddo none of my characters exist. Now that I'm playing on lam I'd like to transfer one of my toons. Unfortunately you need a character on myddo to do so.

I've asked for GM help and gotten no answer. Does anyone here know what I can do?
I've heard it is a known bug.

Considering myddo has been in "beta" for about three years, I wouldn't hold my breath :(

You could try PM-ing Cordovan or Tolero and maybe they can get your problem in front of the eyes of someone who can help you.

One of my characters is broken in myDDO. I play him weekly, but he is "archived". However he transfers over just fine to Lamania. Have you tried the character copy tool and failed, or were you hesitant to attempt it just in case it burned one of your 5 transfers on a broken toon? If you haven't tried, I'd say give it a shot.

Which is why you don't give the interns real projects.

Out of curiosity, if you transfer a toon that was deleted but still shows up on the transfer page, does it just waste a slot?

Same. Mine transferred over just fine being "Archived".
Give it a shot if you haven't already.

MyDDO is way borked. I have a couple toons that are messed up on MyDDO and I have PM'd just about everyone on the Turbine staff that frequents these forums over the years, and the response I always get is a derivative of:

It's a known issue
There's a fix on the way, but it's going to take some time to debug and deploy
I'll forward this to the right person

In other words, even though there are numerous external applications and spreadsheets that absolutely rely on MyDDO being accurate, that still doesn't make the borked-ness of the site rise any higher on the to-do list. So it's doubtful that a handful of players that are having the OP's issue for the open beta will likely not help the odds of getting it some more attention.

But, hey, we can all dream that it'll be fixed someday...

Yes, happened to me just recently while trying to transfer my main.

Accidentally hit the wrong toon with the same name that I deleted on a different server. It showed up on character selection screen as level 0 and clicking the button did nothing.

As for transferring characters to Lamannia...

Characters should just have a simple 0 or 1 [true/false, yes/no] based on if you transferred in the most recent opening of the server or not.

Your character(s) would have a 1 and when the server opens and you transfer over it goes to 0 thus while the server is up you can't move the character again if you delete it from Lamannia.

Once the server is wiped... all characters reset to the 1 state allowing them to be copied again 1 time upon the server's reopening during the time it is up.

I mean what is gained if you brought all your characters over to Lamannia [hypothetically speaking, sure not enough room for every character in DDO on Lamannia]... what could you exploit there by doing so?

Even if you brought the same bag filled with FRDS, LDS, etc on each character you copy over and become "The Dragonscale King/Queen" of Lamannia...

once the server gets wiped, all you did there gets erased... so what would you gain?

My level 20 main has been unable to copy over to Lamannia for any testing in the last year... I didn't realize when I copied him it was a once in a lifetime event
... even if my character wouldn't have been helpful, would have been nice to go over and at least think I was being helpful.

Limit how many characters can move over per account but not that you can't copy there each time Lamannia is up after it's been wiped.

As for MyDDO... I still have 3 characters that don't exist and have been deleted on my character list
