Assassins will be crippled in the new update if what I read (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=376774) is correct.

Epic monsters on hard and elite are now resistant against death if their CR is above 20. This ward is called “hard to kill” and acts as a death block until the targets hps drops below 50% which removes the ward. The block doesn’t restore after the monster heals.

ATM epic death wards are on orange named monsters and they cannot be assassinated.
This basically means even on a solo run rogues will have to beat every epic monster down to 50% HP before they can use assassinate. Doesn't that defeat the purpose entirely?
Come on DDO Devs. The last time you did this it made assassins the least played class and basically crippled in epics.
We're far from OP and don't deserve to be castrated.

Assassins still do great DPS with their enhanced PRE damage. Now they are more in line with acrobats in terms of power. Before, assassins were the clear 'winner' out of all rogue PREs.

While I like the shout out to acrobats, really acrobats need a leg up, not assassins a cut back. And the OP is right, in that its a little silly that you would have to go beat down a monster half way, then use assassinate, from sneak mode, which the idea is to sneak up and slit the enemies throat basically.

On the other hand, this only applies to hard and elite epics, which it may not be practical for assassins to solo in the first place.

On that note, does this apply to the new quests which are only epic? Or just the ones where they can be heroic or epic?

I think the purpose of this was to reign in the casters a bit, and make melee characters more desireable to bring along. One guy even stated on the forums that he didn't want to bring any melees along since it was a wasted piker slot on most quests. I really wish I could remember what post that was in so I could link it, but that guy seemed like a tool anyway.

At least it is not as bad as it used to be.

so to and fro again... sigh, I was holding my breath to actively rejoin the game with the expansion after Turbine´s lack of consistency made me take a longer break. What about giving epic enemies just epic saves? A shocking thought.

The blanket immunity in epic play has been shown in the past to be a very poor idea. I understand that folks doing the development now may not have been around back then but marginalizing classes with blanket immunities leads to dull one dimensional play.

If you want to effect a class of characters (say assasins and pale masters) then the best way to do it is to understand how these folks play and modify the scripting of mob behavior to account for it.

For example, one thing pale masters love to do is group foes. Reducing a pale masters ability to group foes will drastically reduce his ability to perform.

Here are simple ways to reduce the effectiveness of a pale master.
1. Dont spawn foes in densely packed groups.
2. Spawn foes on different levels
3. Keep enemy archers and casters spaced out with preference to attack pale masters
4. Script avoidance movement by enemy foes to leap away from the pale master.
5. Reduce the pale master's movement through spell effects or hamstrings.
6. Equip foes with the dreaded light spell

Quests designed like "Sins of Attrition and Stand your Ground" are pale master wet dreams.

I dont play Pale Masters or Assasins but I empathize with them. They should be able to play the game too. I find the idea of retrograding back to the dark days of blanket immunities in epic content extremely depressing. I know there is huge pressure by the unskilled masses to heavily nerf these toons. But a better approach would be to positively encourage these inexperienced folks to play better. Currently, at end game, the balance between different character classes played by expert players is the best it has ever been. Implementing such a radical change will only tip it out of wack again.

I might actually have to use assassinate tactically now:P

-The 3 poisons don't work on epic except to increase your chance at crits.
-the vorpal attack on natural 20's has already been nerfed to only apply to monsters with reduced HP's.
-the extra SA is nice but also got nerfed in the fort changes and is no longer dependable.

really all we have left is assassinate. Why take that? Might as well cancel the pre.

Well Mechs might get a bit more love now - Sorry Arti/Mech Crossbreeds have destroyed Pure Mechs.

Acrobats - Still need Dex to hit and damage on all Q-Staves - Since when are H-Orcs considered Acrobatic?


If I'm reading all these threads right {I uninstalled Lama as my laptop was having big problems} then anyone with Instakills has been nerfed into the ground.

Arcanes of course have been reduced back to CC or nothing {Unless you're a Sorc}.
Clerics and FavSouls may as well simply drop Destruction and Implosion.
Assassins get it in the groin too eh?

Well if this means we have more mechs and Acrobats in the game I'd be happy BUT it's not gonna mean that for reasons already mentioned is it?

BTW - What happened about the fuss about Clerics not getting Armour Proficiencies on par with Fighter/Rangers?
This to me is the biggest nerf they've come up with.
Removing Divine Instakills usefullness is just the icing on the cake.

So the Deathward was reapplied (kinda).

LOL, it gets worse, a few destiny abilities give Vorpal and so does at least one epic feat.

Wow...come on already...rise to the challenge!

Personally sounds fun to me...it will be exciting how the game should be.
