Narrowed the choices for me down to 3 and would like some advice, help, etc for pros/cons of each to help make choosing easier, and i can prepare gear accordingly ahead of time.

-Rogue Assassin

-Cleric

-Artificer

I have the same question - I was thinking of taking a divine as an offering of peace to those who may be reluctant to include stoners in their LFMs - but im not sure

My 3 i'm debating are barbarian, paladin, rogue.

I'm leaning toward rogue or barb but I change my mind a lot. =P

I'm not afraid of a cleric life. Very good self healing, great self buffs, good offensive casting, melee capable.

Artificer is a lot of fun, i'm only level 9 on my first artificer life, but it's very smooth. Self heals if you're WF, decent dps from a rangee, tap skills, easy evasion w/ monk splash.

Of those three, I'd choose the rogue life cuz it's harder to do solo. But it all depends on your play style. If you're like me and solo/pug a lot then assassin. If you play with guild/channel a lot or have TR buddies, I'd say cleric so you don't get sucked into healbot from 16-20 and can enjoy yourself.

I would only do the rogue/artificer if you either already have appropriate lvl 16 trapper gear or have enough money to buy it. We had a "fresh" 16 artificer in an elite quest last night that blew the boxes since he didn't have the trap gear for his level.

If you are looking for the easy button, that's tough. I'm not sure there is one in DDO. Try warforged artificer. Buff, blade barrier, self heal, traps and pew pew pew. Hard to go wrong with that and a lot of groups will love you if you just open traps for them. People will toss you free gear I think.

Oooh... must try to talk you out of this. If I understand what you are thinking, you will be welcome in groups that you are not quite ready for if you play healbot. If this not what you mean, please ignore, I'm an idiot.

Cleric/FvS could be the hardest classes to play well. You need to make fast decisions about when to melee, when to use crowd control, when to toss AOE, when to DOT. You also have to anticipate when someone in your party is about to get hit, and move to prevent or mitigate it. This takes a lot of awareness of quests, the dangers, and what others in your party are doing.

I hate to have a cleric join my LFM who doesn't really play his character to its fullest. If you are just going to stand in the back and heal, I could get a hireling for that and only loose 5% when it dies.

Players who "need heals" are loosers. Sorry. (The only excuse is Barbarians and Fighters who team with a dedicated friend. That can actually be very powerful.) You don't want to group with them. They will suck your poor cleric dry. You'll become a sanctimonious cleric with "I don't heal stupid." in your bio. Nobody likes a jaded and sanctimonious healbot.

/sarcasm off, I just don't think this is a good idea, but it might work for you.

+1 for calling them 'stoners' lol

Artis are a lot of fun to play. If you go with a human and take the dragon marks you can get a nice boost to your crafting levels as well. Rogue Assassins are also a blast to play, although may be somewhat tougher to level as their damage is very much based on having someone else hold agro for you (soloing is a lot trickier). Clerics can be fun to play (I have one and 3 FvS), but they can also be very frustrating. Frustrating when you're playing with a group that is demanding more of you than they should need, and frustrating when you yourself aren't on your game and you're letting the team down.

A properly built Arti (for trapping) needs no gear.

Just to be sure, I took the first two levels of my 4th Arti as a Rogue to max the buildpoints. The "free" Evasion didn't hurt either... :D

Actually that's exactly what i was thinking - I'm glad you brought up these points - I hadn't considered them - I already know the Paladin class pretty well - maybe I'll just fast track a pally... ???
